Hey, this is James and I have a problem. HAS anyone rebuilt the ZL20 valve. I ordered the rebuilt kit and the parts in it don't look the same. Of course I really don't know how far you have to tear down. I KNOW that the oil ring on each pistion are torn, BUT it did not even come with replacements. Any suggestion will help. ,,,James

Hi James,
I did not know there was a rebuild kit for those valves ??? got a part number??

Dont know which valve you have or what kind of problems you are having ?? But I have been into a couple [old style] and in my opinion there is no fix to controllable part. The spool valves are VERY loose in there bore... the way it was machined. You can fix the valve body leaks sometime.

I think the piston you are talking about is the pressure relief valve assy ??

I have pictures here showing the two factory loader valves.

you know they don't even show a part #. I just said "Rebuild Kit for the ZL20" and have the pieces laid out on a cloth. I just assumed that was what I needed. I guess it would have saved me money if I had called them direct and talked to them. BUT with all the things happening around here, sometimes it is only at night when I can get on to order. I was told by my EX mechanic that there was a kit. The pistions I am talking about are the ones that lift and lower and tilt bucket. I found that the oil rings are torn, which I have found replacements for them(I pray). I the manual it shows a break down of the pressure relief value (I guess that is what it is) because it leaks real bad. The problem I had was it had no strength to lift and the buck and very little pressure to hold the load(it drifted)
I wanted the replacement value since I first saw, But the expense is not possible right now. My wife is terminially ill and I must stay home to care for her and my son, with two more just added (neice and nephew, 2 & 4) and without an income, I have to live off my saving. PLUS I have other problems with the tractor that have to be worked (back hoe, 3 point lift,) I have been doing this for a year, now. Does not look like much more needs to come off. It also has to plugs (?) that uses a large allen wrench to remove, I was wondering if they needed to come off (if there were any oil ring behind them).
I guess I will put on these oil rings that are bad and see what happens. I believed that the lack of pressure and drifting was caused by the excessive leaking from these area. But it also leaks real bad from the pressure relief valve. ,,,James

I have mine and one that I had sent to me that someone replaced, & have disassembled them for inspection, there are no o-rings on the SPOOLS to seal them only tight fit, (but the fit is not to good for low visc hyd flid as factory use the ole 30 weight oil) the hyd oils are thinner and flow around the spools so the FEL leaks down faster than most.

now it almost sound like you were talking kits for the FEL cylinders?
or the relief valve. the relief valve can be worked on, as there may be seals in that I took mine apart so long ago that I forget if there are any there or not?

there are o-ring seals between the blocks/end plates & under hose/tubing fittings though if I remember right..

Yes, you are right, but there are two o-rings(on each spool opening) one at the top and one at the bottom. They are allowing fluid to pass by(leak out). I guess the hole in the bottom is for allowing the fluid to leak by.

Have not proved it but that is probably right. I guess they should be marked that way.

Just saw where you can order the refiefvalve. BUT If I could get itto come apart, it might save some money and fix that leak. It seams to be the worst.

Well I did replace the "O" ring on both "spools", BUT it still drifts and it is still leaking from the pressure relief valve. Maybe that is the problem. I saw where you could buy one ,but also saw where it breaks down AND maybe I CAN REPLACE "o" RINGS OR SOMETHING. OF course replacing the "O" rings in the "spools" made it REAL thight when you lift the FEL, hope it works itself out. Maybe a pressure gage set up there would give me a better indication of pressure at that location. ,,,James
