Many years ago the front wheel on my mowing deck on my F came off and never noticed it but returned over mowed area and found it. Put it back on. Later it came off and I ran over it, cut the rim and wheel. Apparently the force of my rough mowing and then ditches broke lock ring or pulled the pin and let it drop out of the hole in the deck. Have a new F and remembered my wheel drops off the front in the past and had always bought hardened steel bolts and replaced the ring holders. Made note in my mind to get hardened steel bolts for new F. Welllll, yesterday while I was using the ZD and Grandson using the F I got stuck going thru a ditch which I always mow easily with the F. While waiting on Grandson to go get RTV1140 and tow strap I saw one of my front wheels on my ZD mowing deck was missing!!!!! Welll, Grandson pulled my ZD out of the ditch like it was nothing and I started tracing my mowing area and found my lost wheel assembly and luckily it wasn't cut. The wheel is clamped to tight in U and has created a flat spot so I'll loosen the bolt clamping it together and grease the fitting on the wheel and get hardened steel bolts, four (4) and nuts and replace the lock rings on the ZD and F.
Past lessons some times retreat back into the mind but events can bring them back to the front and action that should have been done sooner gets done later.
Just a warning to those of you that mow yards and fields instead of Lawns, you may want to consider replacing your rings holding your deck wheels on. Cheap insurance.
