Z421 With RCK54-400z (54" Commercial Deck) Belt ID

Hi all. I managed to break the deck belt on my Z421. Went over to the dealership and they looked up the part number as K5623-36740 - which they didn't have in stock. That's a completely different issue, but for another time (how can you not have these in sock? I bought it from you, and there is at least one more on the showroom floor still.....)

The belt they got to me 4 days later is a Mitsuboshi K56 5 33674. The belt I broke is a K56 2 33674. It appears to me that this new belt is 3 or 4 inches too long. I've gone over the belt diagram multiple times.....as far as I can tell I'm putting this thing on properly.

Searching around on Google and the Mitsuboshi site, downloading catalogs, etc has been of no help figuring out what these part numbers mean and if this indicates a difference in length.

Anyone have an idea? At this point I'd be happy to just order something online and return the one to the dealership if it is in fact the wrong belt.

Uhmm. According to Messicks Parts the number the dealer looked up was correct, but did not have that part number on the one they actually got for you. If I'm reading your post correctly, the original belt and the replacement received have the same number on them, for which I have no explanation.

The looked up Kubota part lists a length of 165.5 ". Messicks has parts diagrams that may help you sort out your problem, you do have to register an account with them though.

Clockwise: Should be left hand spindle- front, around the center - front to rear, back behind the idler pulley, to the right hand spindle- front then back across the rear to the left hand spindle. Post a pic if you want.

This is it, thank you. Broken belt is 165.5, putting tape on the new one shows 172.

So I guess K56 2 vs K56 5 is about 5.5 inches. Since the correct Kubota part number was (hand written) on the sleeve this came in I suppose it was mispacked. Can't say I'm very pleased about that, but at least we've confirmed I'm not completely incompetent, and just plain slow.

I don't do well with belts in particular, like routing them. For some, pulleys and belts comes natural.
The deck belts on my ZD331 and 326 have over 1500h each, but the deck itself is shaft driven.
