First, how many hours on this machine...and, is it still in warranty?
If in warranty, let the dealer handle it...otherwise, you can void your warranty.
Your engine is air-cooled....so, the first thing to check is that the cooling fins are clean since it really sounds like it's overheating. While you're checking out the cooling fins, I suggest you clean the rest of the machine...and check the air filter.

If the cover to the cooling fan is not covered in debris just snap it off and look deeper. I haven't looked at my Z225 but am sure it is driven by the flywheel so it will turn. I agree with Roy Jackson that it is a cleaning problem.
