I'm in my 50's.

Since I've been alive, per a washing mahcine and dryer, you have to take out the lint per the dryer (let along hardness water issues with homes AFTER the fact I've learned as I've gotten older).

Wife and I picked up a new washer and dryer in Sept of last year from Lowes.

The other day, washer sounds like it's giving up the ghost and is out of balance and wife finds a crap load of water on the floor.

I call Lowes tech support today (yesterday was January 1st LOL).

Turns outs the washer needs to be drained and clean at least every two months (or in x amount of time).

I'm like I want to return the washer back to lowes because no one told us the that the washer needs to be drained every two months per service recommendations. My wife is down Charlotte today with the boys so I call her, and she informs me that she already "serviced" the drum the other week (and I'm like thinging WT frick, two different areas on the same machine that need to be serviced more than a couple of times a year?).

We had a washer machine together for 15 years, two different locations, and never had to drain or clean anything per the washer.

NOW you're telling me that the washer has to be serviced at least once every two months "in house" by us to ensure it runs properly?

Don't get me wrong, bleed the air vents on a hyrdonic system, changed your air filter on your HVAC system, and get rid of the lint on on your clothes dryer machine. But now you have to serive the washing maching once every two months???

Don't complain about your HVAC system.

Rant off:D

????
To me, this doesn't make sense.
They're not lunar landing modules, it's a water valve that let's water in, a tub that moves, and a pump that drains. Sometimes the pump has its own motor, sometimes one motor turns everything (but drain pump only engages when motor & tub is turning backwards). Everything else is just "bells and whistles", i.e. a control board that does those 3 functions for different durations. Yes, there also might be a door/lid switch interlock, or out of balance switch, or a solenoid valve for the bleach, etc...

..but what exactly needs to get cleaned? Or drained?
How did the water get "out"?

Ohh, yeah, there's a level switch. Most operate by a hose connected to outside of tub. As water fills , the air (I think) in the hose pushes on a diaphragm that trips switches so control board knows what level the water is and knows to shut off water solenoid fill valve(s).
I have 3 washers and in 25 years (75 washer-years) have had one level hose get clogged that lead to an overflow.
If this is the problem, maybe a screen on the hose is the answer?

To keep it simple, Speed Queen. Top load washer, front load dryer. Yes, not the most efficient nor cheapest - bottom line IMHO, they just work.

I only buy commercial washers and dryers that are for residential use. I put them in all my rental houses as well.

No plastics and no problems...

Never done anything but run our bottom of the line Roper. It's in there happily washing right now. Might have to rearrange some blankets every now and then.

We have a front load GE (I think ). There is a debris trap at the bottom to collect pebbles and other small stuff that could damage the pump. Since we don't have any small children around with stuff like that in their pockets, we have never found anything in it. It is a pain to empty as it's about an inch above the floor and drains about a quart of water when opened.

I worked in appliance stores in my early days. Never heard of routing main't on a washing machine.. Must be something new. The wife and I had an old maytag that was over 40 years old. Started to squeal real bad after spindown. Gave it to a friend. he rebuilt the brake assembly. It is still working. Dang thing is probably now well over 50 years old.. They don't make em like that any more I guess. I don't remember putting a dime in it and we bought it used. Just hook it up and make sure the hoses don't leak and wash clothes in it. I think it was an A107 model. pretty simple. Mechanical timer etc.

That sounds like a real PITA.
