I am a new YM2000 owner that is still learning about the tractor. What is the proper RPM range to run engine while mowing. The guy I bought the tractor from says Yanmars are high RPM engines and need relatively high RPMs to prevent connecting rod bearing damage. I have been trying to keep the engine at about 2000 RPM, but the redline is only about 2200 RPM according to the mark on the tachometer. What speeds do you experienced user run your engines at? What engine speed provides 540 RPM at the power takeoff?

You want to use 2200 rpm in pto pos. 1 for 540 pto rpm. That's what the redline is telling you, as opposed to the high rev limit on a car.

As Norm stated, the red line is the normal operating rpm for the Yanmars.

Thanks Norm and Jim,

This shows how much of a tractor rookie I am. This is my first tractor. My wife fell in love with a house in a 4-acre pecan orchard and the YM2000 seems the perfect size to maintain the property. It makes sense that the redline on the tach shows the rpm needed to obtain correct PTO speed. I’m sure I’ll have more questions in the future.

Thanks again,

John
