Hello I'm new on here. I'm wondering how much weight my tractor can handle on the front. I added a 48 inch howes rotary cutter a few days ago and now the front end is too light. I made a front weight that is bolted on that weight 110lbs. And it's not enough. I would like to add more but I don't want to put too much on and crack down he frame. How much are you guys with these tractors running on yours. IMG_1849.JPGIMG_1850.JPG

I only had to add around 75lbs. to the front on my YM2000. using a 4ft.BH. and a 5Ft. FM. which I know the FM is 611Lbs.. I only get extremely light on the front when I lift the implements all the way off the ground and the tractor is moving. IMHO your not going to hurt anything if you add more weight. When I am moving and not mowing I only lift the front wheels of the FM. If it's still light on your 165 then add more weight to the front. Your not going to hurt anything. I packed the bumper in the pic. with free lost boat anchors from a near by lake. :)

I think your owner's manual will advise around 200 lbs max. But because loaders weigh a lot more than that, I think more weight is harmless.

I have that same Howse mower. I started with two 77 lb suitcase weights in the front of my first YM186D. This wasn't enough to get the steering under control. I added another two 77 lb weights plus two 10 lb slugs off of exercise equipment. That made it feel stuck to the ground with the mower or rototiller attached, and improved its pulling power for pulling the disk without spinning the wheels helplessly because now the front axle was doing its share of the work.

Note the center of gravity for this front ballast is way out in front of the tractor. In theory that helps traction with less effect on making the tractor sluggish pulling excess weight uphill.

The loader on my second YM186D is all the ballast it needs up front.

I suggest find some suitcase weights. As I recall these were $100 total because nobody knew what they fit. You can just see a chunk of 4x6 I used to fill the gap between the weights and the tractor's chassis.

I think I will add some more to get it up to 200lbs. That should be enough.

I have a YM2000, I have in the neighborhood of 150 to 175 in 2 bar bumpers up front. It is needed for the 5 ft bush hog and the 6ft bush hog finish mower to keep the front down

Knowing that the John Deere 650, 850, 950 and 1050 Yanmar machines are basically the same family as the YM2000 and upward in series, the JD manuals state to use the CUT 42# lbs weights for a total of 6 on the front. Simple math of 42X6=252-lbs total. Thus, you can add the weights if they fit that front frame opening.

FYI, if you can not find those weights readily in your area or they are just priced to something insane, check out Lowes on-line. They cost $64.64 Each. They will ship them locally to your closest store for FREE pickup. Three years back, a JD dealer wanted $89 each. Thus Lowes was the better deal NEW. If you paint these black, then they are the identical match to the Yanmar version. Shop John Deere John Deere Rear Suitcase Weight Suitcase Weights at Lowes.com

Also Lowes and everywhere else says that you need to buy 2 or a pair since the front hooking to the frame keeps them aligned. I already have two that came off of my JD850 and put them on the YM2610. They fit perfectly. They should, because that's the same Yanmar frame!

Thanks I have been wondering where I could find some of those weights. I have one of them that came with the tractor when I bought it. The 2 pieces I made that are on the front now aren't enough. I'm just worried that hanging to much on the front could crack the frame.
