You want to get the washer and washer pieces out. It is not uncommon for mechanics to overlook the old washer and put a fresh one in, but [in general] two washers is not a recipe for an engine that runs well. Have your injectors been serviced before?
[EDIT: @winston1 corrected me on this. This engine does use two. Believe him, not me.]
I don't know anything about the rear thrust bearing movement. In general, I wouldn't be thrilled about movement, but in actual use, I'm struggling to think of when it would move side to side. The crank only moves one direction and then the thrust bearing should rotate and stay there.
