I am a new user here but have been reading threads here for over a year now ever since I purchased my YM2000 and have found the site extremely useful.

Now I have come across a problem that I have not found in the threads here. The problem is on one of my rear axles the hub is loose on the spline of the axle. Enough that the wheel wobbles. I removed the wheel so I could check out the play, then removed the hub. All the play is located between the hub and axle. For a temp fix I flipped the washer over it had a heavy wear pattern worn in it and flipping the washer over seemed to seat the hub onto the axle a little further and push the back of the splines against each other and tighten it up.

I wanted to know if any one may have a fix without replacing the axle and hub and if not where I may find a axle and hub for replacement.

Thanks

I have a used axle & hub. You moght try cutting some strips of pop can & use them as shims by placing them between the hub & the shaft

Time consuming, but effective....clean the hub thoroughly and using a popsicle stick or very small putty knife build up every other spline with JB weld. Let dry at least 24-48 hours, preferably with a lamp on it for heat. Then use a small triangular file to hand dress each spline. It will take numerous fittings of the wheel, removing each time and dressing various splines down further, but it will work. If your patience holds out, then go back and do the splines you skipped.

You can also shim from the inside so the 24mm(? from memory) bolt will pull the hub up snug.

Can't help with the hub, but welcome to TBN... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif Robert

Similar to LMTC's repair, only easier, fill every spline liberally with JB Weld, smush it together, bolt it up,and let it sit for 48 hours, then give it a try. You have essentially welded the hub to the axle, but most are virtually welded with rust anyway, requiring axle removal to replace axle seals or bearings. If no work, Leonard still has the parts.

I encountered this yesterday. I just got my YM240 running and took it for a test drive. Upon returning, the left axle let go. The hub stripped out on the shaft. It is so loose I can rotate the hub so that the grooves on the shaft can be made to line up with the grooves on the hub. I may insert splines into each resulting hole. A new hub is $103, not too bad, but if I buy a new hub, you know the right side will then let go also. I'm inclined to find a good repair technique now for when the other side goes.

First I tried a sheet metal shim. I couldn't get the pitch diameter just right so only 1/3 of my shim would go on and then only half way. then I put 2' long finish nails into each space, double in some, put the hub back on and got about 1-1/2 feet. Then I went in the house and ordered two hubs.

There is no reason for the right side to go bad unless the bolt is loose. That is a highly unusual problem. second I ever heard of in 15 years of following Yanmars.

i like NOrm have not heard of it. But doesnt it look like this guy piggybacked on a 10 year old post of a similar problem? i didnt go back and reread all the previous post but it sounded that way. If so its like 2 in 10 years.

The most common thing we see is that big hub washer (about 1/2" thick) gets left off or lost. If a thinner washer is used the washer will bend and the hub will get loose. Just something to check.

I first said I had not heard of it, but went back and edited after seeing that I had responded 10 years ago.
