My clutch has started going almost all the way down with no resistance and only engages in the last inch or two of travel before it bottoms out for shifting gears. What is going bad here?

Try looking at www.hoyetractor.com On the left side there is a section that say Tech Info, etc. 2nd item there lists Clutch replacement. That might help.

Have you eliminated loose adjustment linkage?

Have you eliminated loose adjustment linkage?

I have been doing that as the pedal kept going down. Does this confirm I need a new clutch?

My guess is not so much the clutch disk itself but something is failing with either the linkage or pressure plate. Clutch disk wear should only have min impact on free play of clutch peddle.

I agree, as the clutch disk is barely .375" (and 3/8" travel is minimal) it is usually and indication of weak pressure plate fingers..but when you have to split the tractor it's best to change it all.

Isn't there a couple of springs that attatch to the fork that holds the throw out bearing ? Don't these springs put resistance or pull the clutch pedal back up after it's depressed & take your foot off the pedal ? I had these springs break once on a ferguson which felt like the clutch was gone . You would still have to split the tractor though . /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
