Okay, so i found another one. This time a red 2002 Yamaha Grizzly 660. I've always had a thing for 660's, guess its just more of a motor I'm used to. Anyway, the guy wants $2,200. Now, you're probably thinking there's a catch. You're right. It has 6100 miles on it, and it smokes and the shaft is worn and makes noise. The 2k Warn winch also needs to be rewired. As well as new tires. Now, what I'm thinking, have it for a winter or maybe even summer project if I think about it and work hard, is to completely tear it down and clean and rebuild. During the process, rewire the winch, get a new shaft, and get new tires. So, all in all I think I'd be looking at about $4k-$4.5k. Would it be worth it? I can trust the rebuild job, as I myself would do it along with my uncle who is a mechanic. What do you guys think?

I think I'd make a lower offer or walk away, sounds like it's had a rough life

I have an 03, check the winch where the wires go into it, take the end cap off and clean, probably full of mud and corrosion. How are the wheel bearings? Also check and see if the diff lock works.

It has 6200 miles and he said the winch has only been used a few times. And, when I said rewire, that's because he took the switch off because it had some problems. He also said it's been stored inside. And the ATV auction on eBay ends tomorrow, so if it doesn't sell I may shoot $1700 and see what he says. Sound fair?

And I think once I redo it, then it would be worth more if I just wanted to sell it and get into a better one.

I think so. Good luck.

Not sure how pricing is where you are, but with the mileage I'd look real close at the quad first.
Ask about the maintenance history. Check wheel bearings, axles, ball joints, cvt clutch belt/sheave, brakes, etc.
All this stuff adds up quick (I just bought a 660 rhino with issues)
From my own research yamaha 660's are known for burning oil
In my area you could do better than 4-4.5k (your target investment) but your area may be different.
Good luck!

Around here a 500-700 4x4 with about 1500 hours about the same age goes for about 4.5k. The ATV deal didn't work anyway, however I may go look into it more.
