John Deere 990
Well folks, with much analysis; discussion; research; and spousal debate - I finally ordered a new JD990...... (gads what have I done???).

JD990; MFWD; 300CX FEL; HD Bucket w/Bolt-on Tooth Bar; R4's w/Wheel Weights; Rear work light kit; Welded on hooks; hood guard; LX5 Rotary Cutter with safety shield / chains and slip clutch; Free Delivery after Thanksgiving...

.... price was acceptable to me (and in the normal ballpark for % off List) but I am declining to publish an exact amount to avoid experiencing buyer's remorse after hearing from everyone else who paid thousands less.......and this is my first tractor so I'd like the afterglow to last a while longer.

I will post pictures when it arrives. Thanks everyone for your assistance, patience, and discussion.

Congratulations. What are some of the projects you have lined up to do? I'm sure you already have a list made, so let's hear it.

My short list of new Tractor-To-Do's:

> Learn how to run everything on the tractor
> Learn how to use / operate implements - SAFELY
> Bush hog about 5 acres
> Use the FEL to clean up some piles of used block brick
> Disc / Harrow about 5 acres to prep for Spring planting of a new Tree Farm
> Build a drive to the back of our 34 acre property ~ 1700' long
> Tear down an old metal corn crib
> Fill in and level a low spot that keeps retaining ground water
> Build a garage/barn for the new JD
> Fill in a sink hole on the property
> Learn to weld
> Build a Tree/Shrub Spade like Mr. Jimi's
> Transplant some Cedars and build a wind-row on the property line
> Use a middle buster
> Rent / buy a chipper
> Clean up the woods where some huge sycamores feel into our creek
> Build trails through the woods
> Build a rear weight box / tool box combo
> Start a Christmas & Hardwood Tree Farm (my own business)

> Get to know my neighbors better / help them when I can
> Leave the office behind
> Enjoy my land
> Be a better person / husband / father
> Honor my parents memory
> Thank God for all I have and all I have to give
> Do all of this with my wife and 2 boys

> Start another list!

Then just make up some numbers that sound good, that's what those that claim to pay thousand's less will do!!!! :D

And on the second day??

Congratulations on the decision. I almost went with a 790, but A plan advantage steered me to the Red/Blue camp. The 990 is a good solid time proven design. Steel in the traditional places, minimal electronic widgets, something a guy can work on without needing dealer intervention. Take care of it and it will live longer than you do.

Congratulations. Those are really fine tractors. I have a '98 770 which is the predecessor of the 990's little brother the 790. Amazingly how powerful this little 3 cylinder is. You'll love the reliability and simplicity of the 990.

Good luck.

Congrats on the new purchase. I hope you don't wear it out on the first day.

Have fun!

The 990 is my kind of tractor. Basic and with a high hp to dollar ratio.
