Do any of you use small yard carts or wagons? If so what brands and where can I find them?

My dad uses an older cart designed for a garden tractor. This cart is 30 + years old and still works well. My dad use to tow me in the trailer while mowing when I was young (I'm 31 now) It's roughly 4 x 8 and all metal with a box that tips (manually), and a removable tailgate. Is has larger turf tires and it works perfectly for small loads of dirt, brush, or crushed rock.

Thanks

Take a look at these, they are pretty well made by all the reports here on TBN, I'm considering one for myself. There are some cheaper brands, but reports about them are far from glowing. As luck would have it, Country Manufacturing is running a Spring sale RIGHT NOW on some of their wagons.

Another brand known for quality, and also priced a bit higher because of it is the Kory wagon. I don't have their URL link handy, but you can find them with a Google search. Also one of the TBN dealer/members sells them. Check out Ken Sweet at Sweet's Farm Equipment, he runs ads on this website.

This is very similar in size and shape to the one my dad has...wood rather than metal, but thats fine...the wood can be easily replaced it needed.

Thanks! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I checked out the Kory and almost bought one but went with the Country Mfg units once they went on sale. Normal price for the CM units is about $500 more than the Kory with optional bed. I guess $$$=quality so that makes the CM units better. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Actually the quality between both are identical. The biggest diference is that for the same price I could get a Country Mfg unit on sale with a dump bed and sides while with the Kory I would have had to make the dump mechanism and side supports myself as it comes in bascially 2 pieces, the running gear and the bed. Also, if I recall correctly, the CM unit has bigger tires, 20" vs 18".

With the current sale on Country Mfg units, the price delivered to my house was a wash.

Thanks for the link., Bob. Those carts are really nice. Do you think my wife might like one for our anniversary? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I guess that's a silly question, what woman wouldn't love a nice cart like that. I hope I can return the mixer and vacuum I got for her... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Gardening centers and hardware stores should have small trailers that would suit your needs.

Think twice about a wagon as backing one up can be ineresting /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I've got the 15 cu ft rubbermaid trailer from Farm & Fleet. Bought it for moving small loads of horse poo down to the pile. It's adequate for the job, but doesn't quite dump steep enough to get the good stuff out without a shovel.

Anybody using the hand pump unit for dumping the Country manufacturing trailer?

I'm going to try to make it up to the Homier sale in Niles this weekend to pick up one of their dump wagons for $199. I've debated about it for over a year, but I think I might do it this time...

If I remember correctly, it's 7 feet long. It's perfect for my needs.

We've been using this Walmart cart (see attachment) since 1991. Best $88 I ever spent.

OFF TOPIC ALERT!

We've been using this Walmart cart (see attachment) since 1991. Best $88 I ever spent.

In 1991, it was probably American made too...

I'm not trying to start a Walmart debate, but it was an interesting discussion that came up at lunch today--
The old man (Sam Walton) was all about creating jobs for Americans, and after he died, his heirs only cared about turning his tens of billions of dollars into hundreds of billions! At the time of his death, American made products accounted for 80 percent of their sales... now Chinese made products are 80 percent of their sales!

This is just an observation we made today.
It is not intended to spark a heated debate!

Anyhoo, I'm off to the Homier sale to check out the Chinese made dump wagon! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I know what you mean. I was there last night looking for a cheap battery powered wall clock. All made in China. So looked at the more expensive ones. Still made in China. Oh wait there is a Timex - nope still made in china.
ALL of the wall clocks made in China. Depressing.

AndyM . . . a couple corrections, Sam Walton didn't have tens of billions but the entire family was closing in on 10 billion. But that is just me being picky. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif On a serious note, I do think that Wal Mart has really gone down hill, and I also realize that while I say that their sales are up. Sam was a great American businessman, can't say that his legacy continues the tradition he started, of course that is just my opinion. Now as for the Chinese connection, Wal Mart currenty accounts for a full 1% of their entire economy, and that is a HUGE amount. Again, just me, but I do everything I can to avoid shopping there.

Now on to the Homier stuff. I wouldn't trust their wagon to hold the advertised weight and actually move that amount more than one time. Ditto several other brands. Kory wagons, on the other hand, impress the heck out of me with their quality, no question in my mind that the advertised capacity is actually underrated. Kory makes Quality. The country manufacturing looks good in the photos, I've still not seen one, but reports are good.

Bob,

Here are a few comparisons between the Kory and Country Manufacturing units that I found while doing my pre-purchase due diligence.

I think for the money the CM units beat the Kory hands down both price wise and quality wise. With the half off sale going on right now, the CM unit is by far the best buy out there.

[*]For the running gear frame, the Kory uses an X-frame design while the Country Manufacturing unit uses an H-frame. [*]Kory uses 18.5" x 8.5-5 2-ply tires the CM unit uses 20" x 10-8 4-ply tires [*]The Kory rated capacity is 3000 lbs while the CM is 4000 lbs. [*]The CM unit comes with dump capabilities while the Kory does not. The bed frame for the Kory is an additional cost option and you must fabricate your own dump mechanism. [*]Assuming you get the Kory bed frame you have to fabricate your own ends and sides. These come standard with the CM. [*]Kory uses 1/2" tie rods while the CM uses 3/4". [*]Tread width (center to center) is the same 41" for both units. [*]The big difference is in the wheel hubs. The Kory uses a 5 bolt heavy duty trailer hub on 1.5" spindles. The CM uses a solid welded hub with a 1" axle. Both use standard roller bearings. [*]The Kory weighs in at about 320 lbs with a bed while the CM is 500 lbs with bed. [*]The CM uses 5.5" bar channel for the front and rear cross member while the Kory uses 5". [*]The best price I could find on the Kory with bed was $915 delivered. The CM MSRP is $1399 delivered and $749 + $178 shipping ($927 total) while on sale. [/list] There you have it. The specs speak for themselves. The CM is a much more robust unit and when normally priced, much more expensive. As you yourself once said, "You pay for quality". /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I agree, but it's cheap and readily available at the corner tent sale. I don't want to pay too much, but I don't want terrible quality either. I've learned to pick out Homier's junk from their better stuff... I did quite well with their $250 box blade (at least for my needs), but I decided their dump wagon wasn't wrth the price.

The country manufacturing looks good in the photos, I've still not seen one, but reports are good.

There are still American made, quality items out there, but I don't know who they are or where to find them unless someone directs me to them!

Country Manufacturing

They have exactly what I'm looking for...

Once again, Bob Skurka comes through for everyone... Thanks Bob!

I'd go out and buy it right now, but I think I better talk to the CFO first. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
