I just recently moved to TN and have 5 acres. I am looking for a tractor and the Yanmar 1700 caught my eye. I have seen a huge price range as I have scoured the dealers. I have found them from $2200 to $3100. Is this the ballpark for these things?? I ran across one today for $2200 from a small dealer. He imports and goes over them. Fluids, filters, etc. I drove it, ran it through all the gears, worked the PTO and stood on it while doing so, checked the diff lock, couldn't find any leaking fluids anywhere from motor to drivetrain. If this price seems to good to be true what else should I be looking for? He had 2 sitting next to eachother and the one I have described was a little louder than the other and had a little more vibration but drove fine and revved fine, no smoke, etc.

My advice would be to check the radiator real good. I bought a 1700 and shortly after the radiator started leaking. I found it to be completely rotten. Cost me $185 to get it recored. Other than that it's a GREAT tractor. Plenty of power and handles great. By the way that sounds like a very good price to me.

I think you are seeing about the right price range.. low 2's to mid to high 3's.

Another fellow on here.. dingbat just got a 1700 I believe. You might ask him his thoughts about it.. or search out a few of his messages.

Do the standard tractor checks.. look for oil in water.. water in oil.. check for leaks, check for operation of all features..

If you get it.. buy a jap parts manual, and get an owners manual for a close english version// ym195/240.. It will help.

Fuel and oil filter crosses over to napa numbers.. I don't think the air does.. but there are dealers here that sell those products.

Thanks to all who replied! Buying a tractor for the first time can be real humbling!! There are so many things to learn and watch out for. As you can see Bruce is the guy whose tractor I am looking at, so we can all flog him if it breaks in the first week. Just kidding Bruce /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I paid $2400 for one that was reconditioned....an undefined term /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif. It looks like brand new and has worked fantastic except for a starting problem that is in another post. No leaks etc. Handles a 5' box plade, 5' finish mower, 24" scoop, all with ease. You'll enjoy it! Steve

Congratulations. I've got the little brother 1500 and love it. It does a surprising amount of work for its HP. Mine is not so pretty though...getting new paint if it EVER warms up. Lets us know how it all works out.
