Yanmar YM1700
Just bought a used YM1700 tractor with a loader attachment. After a few weeks of using it very lightly, the loader started lifting and tilting very slowly. After a few more uses it completely does not work now. The 3pt works but not loader. I already checked hydraulic fluid and my next step is to try and check the filter underneath but I noticed under the seat, where hose exits to the loader lever, there was a nut that I loosened that allowed to have the tilt move slowly but still not the lift. What is this for? Am I looking at the right place? I am new to hydraulic troubleshooting so bare with me and have patience please. I can attach photos if needed. Please help, thx.

G'day Mate and welcome to TBN from Downunder.

Yes, photos are always helpful... according to your stated symptoms, the FEL (front end loader) was working properly and then started to slowly degrade, finally ceasing to operate. One of the common elements is the controlling 'joystick' itself, or the controlling detentes at the base. It's worth checking those out for something being loose. Something 'common' is the problem.

Enjoy the site... from wherever in the world you are. :)

I am going to guess that there is a rubber boot covering the pivot points of joystick and the 2 spool valves it controls for the lift and the bucket controls. Your problem may or may not be hidden by this boot. My guess is that the connections to the spool valves has worked loose. As you pull back the boot, be ready to catch any loose parts-nuts washers and bolts or some type of pin. With your 3ph working, I doubt your issue is hydraulic supply as long as you have not changed around any hoses.

Pictures of the nut you loosened might help. In fact, any pictures of your hydraulics might help.

Here are some pics. First pic is taken from the front and under the seat. Arrow #1 is the bolt I turn (think counterclockwise) that was able to make the tilt on loader move. Can you tell me what is this actually for. The hose just to the left of that bolt goes to the loader controls.
Also #2 is the hydraulic fluid fill. Could you tell me if #3 and #4 is used for anything. Really trying to learn these for future while I troubleshoot the loader problems.
I also did check the quick connects on the controls and they are in good.

Also on the next pic is taken from the left rear side. What would the adjustment be for(blue arrow)? I been reading other blogs and I think this is to control the drop speed but not sure.

Thanx again guys for the assistance and really appreciate it.

thanks for reply but what is the controlling detentes you are talking about. As far as the control it moves but don't know who to check if its clogged. I did check the quick connects to it and it seems tight.

There was not rubber boot to cover the controls. I check the quick connects and its connect tight. This is a older type Yanmar. I posted some pics if that will help.

#4 is the cap on the 3 point control valve. There is a relief valve behind it. That cap is #8 on this parts drawing. THREE_POINT_CONTROL: Yanmar Tractor Parts

It would look to me your tractor is plumbed with power beyond. #2 in your picture has been added and is not only for dip stick but also the tank return from your loader control valve. Hydraulic Return - Dipstick Adapter - Out Of Stock: Yanmar Tractor Parts

#1 in your picture is a new one to me. Never have seen that exact setup. However the hose going in there should be the power beyond hose coming from your loader valve.

#3 I am not sure of but believe it is an outlet for a single action cylinder.

You are right about the little lever with the blue arrow, it is to control drop speed.

Depending on how your FEL is controlled, they are at the bottom or end of the joystick shaft = UP/DOWN & EXTEND/RETRACT.
