Yanmar to build diesel engines in China

Hey folks. Ran across this in my company news. Has anybody heard if this or if this company builds other chinese tractors or engines?

Yanmar Co. said that it has begun production of diesel engines at a joint venture in Shandong Province, China. The venture, established with a local agricultural machinery manufacturer in February 2003, intends to produce 50,000 1.2-liter diesel engines this fiscal year and have an annual production of 500,000 units within three years, Yanmar said. The venture will also market farm and civil engineering-use tractors with the engines. In three years, engine and tractor sales are expected to total about $120 million, Yanmar said.

while I have not seen the yanmar specific one, I have heard that china does produce MORE diesel engines than anyone else... guess that says that at least they can make them.

China is coming out of the stone age in a big way,,,if they can put men into space and get them back in one piece,,they can make a tractor,,,cheap labor,natual resourses,,hungry people wanting to come out of the darkages. I bet the john deere engine is not the only part of the big three or four or five that is being made in china,,,japan and korea both have a lot of their factories in china fo making things a lot more sophisticated than tractors,,I know,,I have been involved on the american side of some joint ventures like that,, product was made here,,shipped to china and put in a factory owned by the japanese.thingy

Small displacement. Probably sub-20hp class, possibly for marine/pump/generator applications.

The big tractor plants that make KAMA and TaiShan are also in Shandong province. For what it's worth, the engine in my KM454 is manufactured by Shandong under license from Isuzu. So a Japanese presence is not new to that area.
