Hello from netherlands, europe.

I have here a 74' john deere 110 that i have repowered with a yanmar L100 diesel (not a chinese clone, its a real yanmar)
With the tractor a few weeks ago i roll in to a ditch with water.... the engine gets some water from the air cleaner and stops direct.
I cleaned up everything, remove the water from above the piston and refresh the oil.
So far.. the engine didnt start. Check compression: low compression so i opened up the engine and inspect everything.
The piston has some damage between the piston rings, the material between the rings are loose. So i get a new piston and rings, including a new connection rod+ bearings.
I also get a new injector and fuel pump (one with a relay)I think that all the parts are chinese clone parts that fit in the Yanmar l100.
They fit nice.
Today i bolt everything back to the tractor and the engine starts and runs fine.
I start mowing a few minutes later, do a 200 meters or so and the engine starts smoking!(the engine hat at this point run 15-20 minutes, 10 minutes at full speed(2900rpm)
At first i think its the heavvy grass, so i stop and lift the mower, that didnt help.
take of the mower deck, didnt help.
The engine sounds looks like he works hard and smokes.
So i turn it of and try to start again, it wouldnt start.
After 15 minuter i try again and it starts, after 5 minutes running at 2800 rpm the engine starts again smoking and the engine speed slows down and stops.
It looks to me that the engine pulls hard, i checked the pulleys and belts, they are all ok and turn smooth.
I removed the cilinder head and inspect the cilinderwalls, looks nice inside, no scratches.

What can be the problem here ?

Hi! I think May be .your engine is too tight. New piston and rings. Do you have check rings gap in the cylinder before install. So for connecting rod and bearing Do you have check clearance (with plastic gage) on crankshaft.
For chinese clone. Some parts are same. Some other dont fit. I do not recommend chinese parts for Yanmar as piston rings or connecting rod. Good luck! Oldmech photojd1.jpg

yes i have checked the piston dimension, is same as the piston that came out.
Rings comes with the new piston, i didnt have checked the piston ring gap before installing
I think its not the piston, cilinder wall looks nice, no scratches or so.
The valve rocker arma are a bit blued at the tip where they hit the valve, they are very hot at this point!
I checked the valve play gap, must be o,15 mm, its OK.

Thats also what i thinking about, when the engine runs a few minutes the oil heats up and some things in the case are too tight and turn strong.
I think i opened up the case again and see whats happen.... > check the connection rod bearing

Today i opened the engine.. a lot of trouble inside !
The connection rod bearing to the crankshaft is worn out, totally damaged.
so, i think this engine is ready for scrap or for parts. i think i go looking for a new or other engine, crankshaft cost around 110 euro, i need also new bearings and maybe a new con rod. cost me around 300 usd on parts only!

see locally a other diesel mower for sale , a shibaura 3 cil diesel.(a GT14 and locally also a Gt16 for sale)
