Yanmar 2310
When I bought my Yanmar 2310, it came with only one key. I contacted Hoyte and they sent me a new Yanmar key. Problem was, it wouldn't work. Another phone call to them and they said that it was the key that fits the 3 cylinder Yanmar Tractor. Well, it don't work on mine. So, with me being the guy that always wants a spare key to everything I own, I couldn't except this. We have a long time Lock Smith shop here that has been around for years. So I went to see him about a couple of keys, one being the Yanmar key. He said that's an easy one. So he cut me one, but it didn't work either. I took it back and they recut another one. It works! If anyone is interested and has run into the same dilima that I had here's some info for you.

The key brand is an "ilco" model # is 1519. It is made for the Komatsu. But also made for the JD key stamped JD206, which may not be cut for the Yanmar you have. But go to your Lock Smith and see if he has any. Otherwise, I found the ilco 1519 here It appears that they get $6.30 per key but you have to buy a minimum of 2. My Lock Smith charged me $5.00 for the key and cutting. Hope this helps somebody out.

weird, any key that will fit in the ignition will crank my yanmars. I actually can turn the 2210 with a half a key..

Same thing here. Any of my YM146/GT14 keys work with any of my YM's.

I crank mine with a Komatsu key that I had when I was running equipment for a living. I tried it after my wife lost the only key I had. It has worked fine for a couple years now.

Thanks for the info on the key numbers!

fwtw my key wont work after pulling it out and then putting it back in the switch w/o wiggling it and turning at the same time and after that it works just fine. Normally I leave the key in anyway but occasionally I pull it just because I may not know who is around.

I think that since these locks are facing up they collect a lot of dirt and after 30 years its amazing to me they still work at all.

I just bought a new ignition swtich from Hoye - my original key would not make that new switch work....I thought all of the keys would have worked too....but not for me.

Locks are easy to make work if you disassemble them and insert the key you then grind or file down any tumblers that are sticking up.

I do this on house locks to make them all keyed alike and I do it on car locks also.

Thanks, I am like you, I have to have spare keys. I visited 5 lock smiths before i FOUND ONE THAT COULD MAKE A KEY, It is not the exact blank because it had to be thinned but when he was finished they work.

Scotty,

It is probably worn and a new one should work ok. hth

I tried that....the old key would not work in the new switch and the new key would not work in the old switch. Oh well....I saved the old switch as a spare and have two keys for that and the new swtich came with two new ones.
