In clearing some scrub during the summer a branch has hooked the dipstick and pulled it from the casing. My tractor now has no dipstick - it is somewhere in the sixty acres I cleaned up. :-(

Tried to get a replacement from Hoyes without success. Is there a Yanmar F18 Super Forte out there who could tell me the length of the dipstick and where the markings are please?

If someone has a spare dipstick they would spare please let me know.

Thanks from the southern hemisphere!
Ross

Thanks for the pointer. Most of the links are to Hoyes unfortunately - I've already asked them and they can't help.

Might need to find someone in Japan, speaking the language, to see if they can locate one for me.

Assuming your oil level is satisfactory now, just run a stiff wire in there and mark it. Later if the level is below that mark, top it up. Next time you change oil, mark your wire with the Full level.

Better than nothing while you wait for a real dipstick to be found.

Another thought on making your own dipstick. If you change your own oil, do an early oil change, do not change the filter. Add half the crank case capacity, let it sit till it drains down, mark the level on your new dip stick. Add to 3/4 capacity, mark again and finally put in the full amount and do the same. Then replace the filter and top off if required.

Thanks California and Fleetman - I'd half expected that would be what I'd end up doing. What the level is at the moment is anyones guess. Not knowing what the length of the dipstick is concerns me. If I use a dipstick from another engine and it is too long what are the risks of some mechanical clash? I realise that I'd have to 'calibrate' it with an oil change.
