I'm looking at buying a Yanmar 485 from someone who goes to Texas and brings them back. 62 hp with 44 hp PTO 4 wheel drive. Half the price of the New Holland 50 hp i am looking at. Need the tractor for digging and planting food plots...any advise

I don't know where in Texas they go but if it is LCI they are all VN tractors. According to these forums that might not be so good.

it would be from VN Tractors in Mesquite, TX. The guy locally who is hauling them to N.Dak. wants 14,500 for a 62hp with loader and 44hp PTO..sounds like trouble??

I personally own a vn tractor (ym2002d), from LCI. I guess that qualifies me to speak about it. I have had bunches of problems including complete overhaul in a little over 2 years I have owned it. Now I wouldn't think that would be the case in every vn tractor so you will have to determine your course of action. If you have done much reading in these forums you will see "most" folks will recommend you RUN! I suspect there are some out there with better stories. Maybe they will comment. Don't mean to throw cold water on your plans but that's my story and I'm sticking to it. I have seen VN tractors web sight but know nothing of them personally or their reputation. Good luck to you.

Back again, I'm wondering if your not talking about an FX435D. VN Tractors shows one of those in their inventory.

Dean, it may not be obvious but Danny is an experienced dealer, one of the few people on here who can find any obscure Yanmar part - IF it exists.

If Danny is cautioning 'Parts' then I think your next step is to find a reliable source of 485 parts before going any farther!

Also - I thought LCI was this year's new name for VN Tractors of Texas. Anybody know?

I'm not familiar with a YM485, but it sounds suspiciously like the korean Kukje-built Ym455, and not really a Yanmar, only a Yanmar supplied engine.

LCI has been LCI for several years, located on Interstate 20 at Wills Point, VN Tractors is located in Mesquite TX on interstate 30. I don't think they are connected other that their tractors may come from the same place in Vietnam.

When I dealt with the Yanmar tractors, the larger they were, the more hours they had. Just as rule of thumb. The VN " refurbs " are noted for turning back the hour meters. You had better know what your doing, if you are going to deal with them. Also, you must be doing some monster food plots. Around here most of the people I sold tractors to, for food plots, wanted them small to get back to where they planted small patches. The average size was about 20-24 hp.
