What did you find, to be the cause of the over heating, resulting in the engine damage?

Bottom radiator hose was old and cracked. It had leaked coolant as i cut hay and the overheat light bulb was out. It was funny that i did not smell anything hot or burning, i usually notice that. It started to lose power up the hills then quit. It was overdue for full service, so now its getting a full rebuild...
