Tractor has set for 2 years...we first got the tractor to start, that was easy, just needed a battery.....

we found 2 issues right away, clutch stuck and 3 point hitch stuck in up position.....so we went ahead and pulled and cleaned the filter and replaced the trans fluid.....we got the clutch working by attaching the pto shaft to the rotary mower and popping it into gear....but the 3 point hitch just wont budge, its stuck it the up position!!!! Ive checked the control valve under the seat, I have it set to wide open..and I have also moved the fall rate lever, it changed nothing....we even tried to use a huge come-along to pull the hitch down, it wont budge...

Tractor runs perfect....pto works fine....clutch works...its just the dang 3 point hitch....any references, info, advise, pointers, or directions would be greatly appreciated

Sending you a pm. Sounds like something froze up big time. Could be the lift piston or rock shaft. When you try moving the lift arms by hand do you feel any slack at all? If not, I would think the rock shaft is frozen up, if you do have slack I would think the lift piston is frozen up. I suppose it is possible for the control valve to stick in the up postion. Did you notice if the lift was in the up position when you first got it?

after we changed the fluid...I'm pretty sure the lift raised up to the full "up" position...I didnt see it, but my friend said he seen the lift raise to where it is now...I will head over to where we are working on it shortly to see if I can feel any movement in the lift arms....dont have any ideas about the location of the rock shaft....does the tractor/transmission have to be torn apart to free up this rock shaft...is there an easy way to get into the 3 point valve body????

thanks for the quick reply...I responded to your pm

No easy way to get to the valve body. Hopefully you won't have too. The rock shaft is reference #7 on figure 29 of your manual. If the lift did indeed come up then I would doubt the rock shaft if frozen. You can see the control valve as reference #1 on figure 30 of the manual. It is behind that side cover and will not even be visible. You could pull reference #13 on figure 28 to get a birds eye view of your lift mechanism. I am sure you have moved the lift lever up and down several times. Just thinking something might work loose. Also look at your feedback rod (references 40 &41 figure 30) to make sure it is properly hooked up. One end of it hooks to a little plate on the right end of the rock shaft. The other ends up on the control valve shaft. Wish I had better knowledge to help.

just went and checked the tractor....no movement can be found on the lift...but my friend says that the lift definitly came up...he said it wasnt much maybe 3 or 4 inches...but it did come up....with the tractor running at idle, we cracked the banjo fitting that supplies fluid to the hitch lift assembly, fluid immediately started coming out.....then we turned the tractor off and cracked the banjo fitting and tried to force the 3 point hitch down hoping fluid would leak out from back pressure, it didnt...starting to think its going to be in the valve assembly

Sounds like it could be the the valve assembly. No drawing on the internals of that valve assembly that I am aware of. I am sort of under the impression that the 3 point on most of these old Yanmars will leak down with some time. Can you hang some heavy weight on it overnight , something to help pull in down? If it doesn come down a little over night I would nearly think the piston, rock shaft or something is frozen. I would almost lean toward taking that top link holder off the back to take a look before dismantling for the control valve. Just my thinking, sure don't mean it's the right thing to do.

Here's a shop poster for the similar US YM240. Dunno if it's relevant here.

I put this and a couple more posters in this old thread.

A shot of the whole lift unit on a 2002d removed.

I believe the 2210 control valve is somewhat similiar to my 2002d. Both are enclosed in a side housing and quite different than the 1500, 1700, 2000 and I don't know what all. Notice the side cover and control valve attached in it off my 2002d. The 2210 is some what similiar.

A shot from underneath the hydraulic unit. Note the lift pisiton sitting to the left. The 2210 will look similiar.
