Wheelhorse 417-8, Yanmar YM186D with 650/FEL
Had a "big" snow (7 inches!) here in DC yesterday and the single-stick bucket control handle decided to snap before I even moved, leaving me to run my Wheelhorse 418 to plow it all out.
I'm not a hydraulics whiz, so I need some help with getting a new control block installed.

Currently on the existing block I have an in/out from pump, a return to the filter on the transmission, and the 4 quick-disconnect hoses for the cylinders.

Here's the new control Amazon page: Amazon.com: Hydraulic Joystick Directional Control Monoblock Valve for Tractor Loader, 2 Spool, 11 GPM, SAE Ports : Industrial & Scientific

The help I need is to decipher the various ports on the new control to plug in the hoses. I see six plastic plugs on the new control, but I've got 7 hoses - what goes to what?

I've included the hydraulic page from the service manual and the schematics from the new control.

Much appreciate your expert guidance!
Thanks,
Randy

So, on the new valve you have the 4 work ports on top, that should be easy to figure out. Next, you have 3 ports on sides marked as: P, T and N.

P is pressure in from the pump
N is power beyond that will feed the 3 pt
T is tank.

The N port comes blocked with a plug, that will have to come out. One thing I didn't see you mention is the power beyond sleeve for that valve, that will go on the N port and then the hose will attach to that sleeve.

This power beyond sleeve looks like this one (image below) and it has to be the right one for the valve you bought.

Hopefully this info helps you figuring this out.

EDIT: Here is the link for the power beyond sleeve for that valve: Amazon.com: Power Beyond Adapter Sleeve for P40 & Z50 Series Summit Monoblock Valves : Industrial & Scientific

Are you sure that is a return to the filter on the transmission? There are two filters on the YM186, and I thought that both are in the suction line to the pump... not in the return line.

rScotty,
My bad - that hose returns to the transmission, not the filter. The screen filter just happens to be next to that hose on the transmission left side.
Thanks!

The "float" feature is simply a detent that holds the control lever a little past the normal wide open position. You engage it by pushing the lever past the normal wide open position and it will hang there until you move the lever back toward the center.

In the float position there is no pressure to the cylinders, and the return port is fully open. The result is that the FEL arms or bucket (float can be on either or both) are just "floating" over the ground with the only downforce being their own weight.

Float doesn't require any extra plumbing; it's all in the control valve. Most FELs will have it on the lift arm circuit only. Mine have always had it, but frankly I've never found a use for it.

I'll take a look at that control valve. Did you also look at the valve selection at SurplusCenter.Com? That's where a lot of TBNers shop because of the name brands and price. They also have very educational descriptions of their valves.

Do you have a hydraulic circuit schematic for the YM186D? There is one in the Yanmar shop manual. It will tell you important things like how the hydraulic pressure is distributed between the FEL and the 3pt system. There are several ways it can be done.

BTW, your YM186D has open center hydraulics. Be SURE to clean the cleanable strainer in the transmission sump. I'll look up the flow gpm. Do you have the optional power steering?

When you order the control valve, be sure to get the optional Power Beyond capability and both the sleeves - the required PB sleeve if you end up using power beyond, and the other sleeve that is required if you block the PB port. That costs little additional and gives you all the options.

rScotty,
Thanks for the info. My current control definitely does not have that feature.
That attached pic is the hydraulic schematic from my 186D service manual, but I'm definitely not smart enough to be able to interpret it with confidence.
I'll take a look at SurplusCenter. I'm a junkie for new tool places.
