I have a Yanmar 177 that I'd like to find parts for. I've checked with Yanmar's online web site and they claim to have no idea what that model is. I checked with a few other places like Yanmar Tractor Parts, Sales, Service, and Delivery. and Sheaffer's Town & Country Tractor and Yanmar tractor owner's new website and Antique Tractors - Yesterday's Tractors : Antique Tractor Headquarters. I can't find anyone to help me out. All I really want to do is an oil filter change and fuel filter change. The tractor works great... Thanks for any help/advice!

I'm surprised Len at Schwaffers couldn't help you.

The 177 is confusing to many people who are used to seeing the 3 digit models as american domestic models.. when in reality.. the 177 is a grey market.. much like it's cousin the 1700.. though older.

I have seen discussions.. ( years back ) about the 177 in the yanmar forum.

If all else fails, I'd get some part numbers for oil filters that fit other yanmar engines inthat size range, and then cross those to napa filters.. then take your filter down and match the oring diamarter and nipple.. etc. hopefully the other features like backflow valve and such will be close as it was for a similar engine.

For a fuel filter.. i went down to napa with my 1700's filter and found a 'will fit' by opening a bunch of boxes and compairing. And alstly.. you can change the fuel filter housing if needed to something more conventional.. etc..

ok, I know it's a 2 cylinder 2 wheel drive model. Where do I find some other similar engines/tractors to get an oil filter and fuel filter to compare?

Take a look at your engine and see if a model number is stamped into the casting. This model engine number will tip off our supply members as to the filters that you will need. Good luck.

I'd be looking at the 1500/1600/1700 / 155-195-240 range

But as the other poster said.. the engine number will be the 'clue'.. etc..

The YM177 is one of the rare 3 digit Japanese models. Len Sheaffer posted in the Yahoo group 5 years ago that the closest manual to that model would be the YM240 (a US model). That doesn't mean that the parts will fit, but it is the closest to fitting what you have.

If you're really stuck try a 1334 oil filter. It is a common model for Honda (many years) and a lot of other stuff including most older Yanmars.

Since we can crank these with compression released to circulate some oil, I don't think leakdown is as critical as on a car that will fire up dry. So if you can't find good docs this should be sufficient so long as it seems to screw on properly.

As for the fuel filter - it may be undocumented but see if its dimensions match the common small Yanmar element in HoyeTractor's online parts listing. If so, I would order from him in appreciation of him putting that information online.

The 177 shares very few parts with later tractors. I had two many years ago, and liked them a lot. I wouldn't touch one now because parts will be all but impossible. We have almost every thing, but we do not have a parts book for a 177. Filters may well be the same as the 1700, as many models are, but parts beyond that would baffle me. First thing I would do is focus on finding someone with the parts book.

I found the model # on the engine. It is 2W80-00589. The tractor works great and it was "given" to me by a neighbor. It also has some Japanese and then 2W80 and a 753 next to it. Thanks to all for their replies. Now that I found the model # of the engine. Where would I look to find a parts/service manual for it (or one like it). I also can take pictures if that would help. Thanks again!

Oh yeah, it also has some other numbers by the model number (which is YM177 and a serial # of 01685). It says 753 cc and 17ps/2800 RPM. What does that mean? I assume it means what kind of power but I can't find something that translates that.
