Yanmar 1601D
Hi there,
New to the forum here and hoping you knowledgeable folks could help me out. I posted on another thread and they suggested I try here.
I am looking to sell my late husbands Yanmar 1601D tractor with a Koyker loader and a box blade but have no idea what it might be worth. It runs good and my neighbor just cleaned it up, changed some hoses and used it so it's in working order. If anyone would like to help me out with even a ballpark I would greatly appreciate it. I will post pictures in the morning and am not really sure of what else is needed just to get an idea. A neighbor has already expressed interest so that's a plus. Want to be fair but not give it away either.
Thank you in advance for any help.

What part of the country are you in? Prices vary by region.

If you are in the South it may have come from Fredricks originally. They recondition Yanmars to literally like-new condition.

There's a 1601 (no 'D' so 2 wheel drive) freshly reconditioned for $5k on this Fredricks page.

Compared to that one maybe take off 1/3 for your used condition and private-party sale, and add several hundred $ for 4 wheel drive, the loader, and box blade.

So top dollar for yours might be over $5k. This is just a first guess! Wait for someone who owns one to post a better estimate.

OK. Glad to see you made it to the Yanmar forum. This is a more focused & maybe more personable forum than the general subject forums. Sorry about your husband. I'm an old guy myself and know my wife will face the same thing. Us oldsters sure do enjoy our old tractors. I think a lot of that is because Yanmar made them so well back when quality and clever design mattered most.

Now I haven't bought a used Yanmar in right at 30 years, but I've followed closely so I'll throw out some prices just to get us started.
All 1601D models were brought into the USA used. That model was originally built about 40 years ago - but being an old style Yanmar it is probably good for another fourty. What I'm saying is that age is nothing but I will also say that condition (and a loader!) is everything.

As a used bare tractor ten years ago that model would have sold in the USA used in the 2 to 3 thousand dollar range - remember, it is imported to the USA because it's original owner already got a lot of use out of it. The Koyker loader is made in the USA and sold new for a similar price to the used bare tractor. Used box blades are a $200 item.

So for the combo you would expect to have $4 to $6 K into it plus whatever upgrades on wheels, tires, battery, and maintenance it got. Generally tires and such are considered the "price of ownership", so a used price would be in the $3500 to $6500 range - depending on cosmetic condition.
I've never seen that tractor/loader/blade combo running go for less than $3K, but someone else might have. I might sell it for that to a good neighbor, but double that on Craig's list.

New tires or wheels, good paint and seat and straight sheetmetal are what raise the price. We are assuming now that it is in perfectly usable condition with all systems worn and showing plenty of wear but everything working normally. It should start easily and run well. Everything working right, just old. A few old notes on when oil & filters were changed are always impressive.

Tractors don't have titles. Ownership is by possession and cash transactions are typical. So be firm about getting cash before it goes.
good luck, rScotty

Thank you so much!! I appreciate the history as well.
A friend got it up to snuff after it had been sitting for bit after my husband passed. He used it around his property and I trust him when he says it's good tractor. I thought maybe I'd need it for something on our 3 acres of property but reality is, there's way too many other things to attend to these days. My husband enjoyed being a 'farmer' (he was a physical therapist) riding around on it and I would rather it get used than just go to rust.
Thank you again for your insight and I'll hate to see it go but hopefully my good neighbor will get it and I can go visit!

I also have no knowledge of prices in your area. I suggest you look locally for any and all tractors in your area, with and without loaders to get a feel for local prices. Also look for prices for box blades while you are looking.
In my area (Midwest USA) a properly functioning loader that is well matched to the tractor is almost worth the value of the bare tractor.
Your YM1601, means it has 16hp at the PTO. This means roughly a 19hp engine rated tractor. Typically a Yanmar is recognized as among the best if the import makes, and thus is typically represented with a bit higher value.
Winston1 provided HoyeTractor.com value page which is a good source of info. but local information should be used over this generalize data in my opinion.
I realize that I have not given a direct answer but value in the Midwest are likely to be very different than NY state.
My opinion is that your box blade is probably a 4’ one and if in good usable shape, probably is worth quite a bit more than rScotty suggested. It would go for $350+ in my area as they are rare used. Probably have more value separate from the tractor than as a package, but even in the package I would be firm if $250-300 value.
Check places like craigslist and facebook marketplace and any others that maybe suggested by others.

This was on TBN in 2011...

Is A YM1602D A Good Risk?

Howdy. I'm a newbie to this site (and tractors in general) but I have some acreage in Idaho that I plan to retire on soon and have been shopping CL and local tractor dealers here in Everett, WA for a good compact tractor.
I've observed that this forum seems to be frequented by some very savvy tractor owner/experts so I thought I should seek your sage advice prior to laying down any dough for a tractor.
I found a clean Yanmar 1602D on a little apple orchard in the Yakima (dry) area that has 1180 hours and comes with an FEL, Deutz-Allis mower, Yanmar SA1300 tiller and 48" 3pt blade for $5400. The photos looks good so I will probably make the 250 mile drive to check it tomorrow. I would appreciate some pointers/advice on what to look for in general and if the fact that this model is somewhat scarce makes it a risky purchase?

Price at $6,000 minimum. Seems these machines with that brand of loader goes for more as a complete refurbished machine. Loaders are getting pricier by the day. The Koyker brand is dependable and in high demand. Don't sell the machine without it either. You'll get the asking price as other machines are going for much more.
