There is someone local selling a age unknown Yanmar 147 2wd tractor with 750 hours. It has a 3pt hitch and comes with a rear sitrex 150 mower. Apparently the 3pt hitch will not raise on it. Other than that it looks to be in good condition. What is a fair price to pay?

That's a tough call and in your location I believe they bring about %20 more than down here....

If you can believe tractor data dot com, they list the '91 model (New) sold for $7500.

What ever the problem with the hydraulics it's usually an easy fix. It can be anywhere from cleaning the internal screen and new fluid, a 50 cent "O" ring in the rock shaft or....a hydraulic pump ($300+). Easily repaired but not necessarily inexpensive.

IMHO, Any Yanmar tractor (small) that's been cared for, has decent parts support and runs well is worth $1500-$2000. More for 4WD and/or attachments.

Is that any help??

A 5' finish mower, IMO, is just too big for a 147. I do not know the parts situation specifically, but do know when we stopped being an official yanmar parts distributor many parts were NA. Aftermarket parts for the greys is generally far better than for the models originally sold in the US. I certainly would not pay any more for it, maybe not even as much, as for a grey model that I knew had good aftermarket support.

Who wooda ever thunk it? I find this to be a very true statement. When Official boni-fide US yanny dealer gives you blank stare upon your parts request. Only a few years earlier, he suggest you stay-away from them BLACK MARKET(greys) because of lack of parts availability. discount it.
I confronted my US dealer,He could care less,"It's an old tractor you know!":(

I got an even worse reaction from the big regional Deere dealer who still runs a Genuine Yanmar Parts banner in the Yellow Pages.

He went nuts on me - said the parts he's franchised to sell probably won't fit my US model YM240, raged about ordering a factory seat to put on a gray and it wouldn't fit because the fenders were too close together. On and on and on. I simply provoked a tantrum in the guy.

I haven't been back there.

The stuff I've bough mail order from Hoye, Danny, Len, (and I really should try LMTC next) has all been top quality. Except for the Genuine Yanmar clutch safety switch, apparently 20 year old stock. Its rubber boot cracked immediately and that dealer refused a refund on it since it was Genuine Yanmar electric parts, therefor not returnable.

I've concluded the Gray replacement parts are as good as most everything sold at NAPA, so who needs Yanmar-USA and their nonreturnable old stock.

Thanks for the input. It is a 2wd model and he is asking $2500 for it. Seemed high to me and that confirms it. I will probably pass.

Thanks.

Yes you should, since most of us buy from the same source(s) and I'm nicer. Really....I am. You just have to take the time to get to know me.

If it were close to me I would jump on it in a heartbeat, the Sitrex mower is one of the best on the market. I have been selling them for over 10 years and the only parts I've sold are belts and blades. We sell that mower for a little less than $ 1300.00 ( rear discharge ) and that is one of the best prices you will find. there are still a lot of OEM parts available for the YM147D and a lot of aftermarket parts also. If the lift is the only problem, $ 2500.00 is a good deal IMHO. The mower is a little too big for that tractor, if I used it I would raise the cutting height all the way up, make a pass and then lower it for the second pass. My wife used a 5' sitrex ( side discharge ) on an F16 for several years without any major problems.
