Only 2100 hours now, but tach stopped. It used to come back after an hour of operation, but no longer. I was advised I could "back something off the flywheel", not really sure, please re educate me on what to check out, and where "it" is located? S ince I have had tractor since 03, I know when rpms sound right to mow. Only repair ever needed was water pump. Amazing machine.

Should be screwed into the left side of the flywheel housing. You can check its position with the engine off by loosening the locknut and screwing it in till it touches the ring gear on the flywheel. It should be about a turn out from touching if I recall correctly. Reset it to the correct position and re-tighten the locknut. Don't get it too close as if the ring gear teeth touch it, it will be destroyed...

The sensor is probably bad. Do you have a voltmeter? Set it for AC voltage, disconnect the sensor connector and connect the two meter leads to its two terminals and start the tractor. A working sensor will deliver around 5.0 VAC. When mine failed(went intermittent for a short while before it completely quit) it was only delivering about 0.5(1/2 volt)VAC which is not enough to drive the tach...
