xx15 Recall, have you gott\'n it?

I got my notice Saturday (3/25). It deals with a design/assembly weekness. My dealer specifically warned me about it back in Feb '04 when I bought my 2615.

A short quote
"An imoprtant part of regular maintenance service requirements for your tractor and front end loader is to retorque the tractor rail bolts (refered to as engine frame bolts in your owner's manual). For a tractor without a loader, it is to be checked and re-torqued after the first 10 hours and then every 50 hours thereafter. For a tractor with a loader they are to be checked and re-torqued after the first 5 hours and then every 20 hours thereafter. Failure to perform this critical maintenance sevice can result in a cracked engine crankcase repairs not covered by your warrenty.

As part of ongoing improvement process, we are recomending you use Loctite 242 and retorque these bolts to 80-87 lbs.-ft. This will help prevent the bolts from loosening which can cause costly damage to your tractor and loader."

The 2015 and 3015 have 4 bolts on each side. The 2615 has 6 on each side.

This is a copy of the procedure.

Re: xx15 Recall, have you gott\'n it?

I have not received this and was not warned of it by my dealer when I bought my 2615 4WD w/ FEL in August '05. With ~35 hours on my tractor, I missed the suggested check at 5 hours. I'll definitely be checking mine this afternoon. Thanks for the heads up.

I don't own a torque wrench. Should I invest in one or just put the Loctite 242 on them and tighten them "good and tight"?

Guys, if you have to take them out anyway why don't you go ahead and drill the heads for safety wire. Then you could forget about them after that.

Excellent suggestion, except I don't even have a vise to put the bolts in and I'd be drilling, or rather trying to drill, with a hand held drill. So, a 1/2 hour Loctite job turns into a multi-day job since I can't realistically take all of the bolts out to have them drilled by someone with the proper equipment. If I had the proper equipment, I'd definitely drill and wire them. Perhaps when I take it in for my 50 hour service I'll get the dealer to drill/wire them for me.

Seems like everyone here is always trying to figure out some way to justify new things to buy. Here is your chance to get that small drill press. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: xx15 Recall, have you gott\'n it?

I didn't have the torque specs the first time I did mine. I torqued to 150lb-ft if I recall. Anyway, that is good and tight. I ain't going back to loosen and retighten mine.

Re: xx15 Recall, have you gott\'n it?

/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif This is really not a good time for a "big ticket" item. I did pick up a couple of surplus ammo boxes today. $5.95 for the small one and $7.95 for the large (.30 cal) one. The large one is going to become a new toolbox for my 2615.

Re: xx15 Recall, have you gott\'n it?

We have been doing this procedure for the last 2 years on all of our 15 series.

Make sure you only take one bolt out at a time. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
