Xr4155c diagnostic codes? Any suggestions?

So my tractor runs normal for awhile then acts like its starving for fuel, dropping rpms till eventually it dies. When it does the dash shows the triangle warning light and shows F11, 1079 and 157 with the numbers alternately flashing. Does anyone have an idea what these codes reference, or have any idea what it could be? I suspected fuel flow so I checked the filter and the lines from the tank and they dont seem restricted. In the top of the fuel tank Im guessing is the low pressure fuel pump, its showing 5 volts going to it. Also, after the tractor dies it will crank back up briefly, but the longer it sits after it dies the longer it will run before starving for fuel again. Anyone have any suggestions? Whats the temperature outside? How many hours since your last fuel filter change?

Its in the 60s here, its good quality fuel. Filter has abt 80 hrs on it. I drained it, no water. Seems to flow fine to the inj pump. Im gonna scope the tank tomorrow and make sure nothings blocking it but when I pulled the lines it flows fine there. Ill prob put a new filter on it tomorrow while Im at it. Does anyone know if there may be an inline screen anywhere, or possibly how to check the return? Is there a relief valve on the fuel return? Id love to buy a service manual for this thing. Again thanks for any suggestions

Not sure they will be much help but I attached the LS troubleshooting pages that pertain to the dash codes you are seeing. I have seen codes like this caused by cold but if you are in the 60s that isn't the case here. Checking for obstructions is a good place to start. Check all your electrical connections if you haven't already. I would also suggest removing your grounding terminal where it attaches to the frame and clean off any paint or corrosion that may be there. LS likes to use those little star washers over the painted surface and they don't always make the best connection. Just about everything on these engines is monitored/controlled by the computer. A bad ground will have you on a wild goose hunt.

Thank you SmurfOperator! Those pages definitely should help me narrow it down. It mentions the inlet metering valve, seems like it or it’s connector could have something to do with the issue. The other day I had checked the main ground first, hoping that would be the issue. While I had the bolt out I removed the paint on the top surface just in case but it didn’t seem to make a difference. I had also checked the electrical connector in the top of the tank which showed 5 volts. I was thinking at the time it might be a lift pump, but I think it’s probably just a fuel level float? I haven’t dropped the tank to see for sure what it is. Inside that connector was very wet with diesel though which seems odd if it’s just a sending unit. Does anyone know if there is a separate low pressure pump or how the low pressure side works? Soon as I get a chance I’m gonna go check all the connections, and check inside the tank. Thanks Underdog, I appreciate the link. I read through that thread and it sounds a lot like what mine is doing but I think this fuel system is different with the crdi on the new engines. I did look for screens on the lines but didn’t find any. I ended up replacing the filter and I checked the tank and didn’t see any issues there. When I tried to prime the filter I never could get fuel to bleed out. I ended up having to pull a vacuum to get fuel out and get it bled. I don’t think it’s the new filter because it did the same thing with the old one. It makes me think maybe I have an air leak somewhere in the filter head primer or heater. Or maybe a pin hole in the line from the tank that doesn’t leak fuel but lets air in under vacuum. Not sure that would explain why it would run longer the longer it sits though. I’m hoping to have time tomorrow to run it and see what happens. Im tempted to add a lift pump.

I'm not certain that the primer on top of the fuel filter housing is even functional on these, I have never seen any flow from pumping it. If everything is working correctly the system is self priming. Under normal conditions after changing the filter you may have the engine stall once and/or run a little rough but should clear the air out pretty quickly, usually within a few seconds in my experience. When you drained and checked the tank did you put the same fuel back in after? A hole in the suction line could quite possible cause this type of problem but yea, I don't really know why you would see any correlation between how long it sits and how long it runs. Can you safely remove the return line and see how your return flow looks while the tractor is running? Do you have a competent dealer nearby? If so you might see what they would charge to run a diagnostic with the service laptop. It would show more details about any codes its throwing and there are a couple tests they can run that might save you a lot of time fooling around. You could also have them verify your computer is up to date, there was some known fault reporting issues on the earlier software releases that have been corrected in the new versions.

I have XR4140 and its doing the same thing.

F11 157 and will also show F11 94 as well as an F18. Will lose power or limp mode, die etc. If I unhook the battery it seems to delay it a while.

Getting pretty frustrated as the dealer has not helped. They swore it was just a fuel filter...but that didnt do anything for me after I replaced it (even tho its not due for maintenance)



Really sucks getting on my brand new tractor and wondering if the thing is gonna crap out again. Hopefully someone can help!!

Well I worked the tractor pretty hard for about 2 hours this evening and it ran perfect. I’m optimistic that maybe it’s fixed. It could have been from tightening the hose connections, changing the filter, properly bleeding it with vacuum, or some combination of these. I’m thinking the codes were just the ecu letting me know the rail pressure was low as a result of it running out of fuel basically. At least that’s what I hope happened lol. I will say I’m not impressed with the function of the primer. It only pumps air until you basically suck fuel by some other means up to the filter and get it filled and bled. Once you do that and tighten the bleed screw, then when you push the primer it feels and sounds completely different, like it’s actually moving fuel. In my case anyway if the filter head isn’t completely full already the primer is useless. But a brake bleeder works great if anyone else has this issue. I plan on running it hard again this weekend. I’ll update if I have any issues but I think its gtg.
