Any reason i can't change the oil at 25 hours? It's starting to get dirty with 15 on it and would be nice to dump that and start over fresh again. My Grasshopper mower with a 25HP Kubota Diesel was changed at 25-50-100 and has been changed at 100 ever since with no oil consumption. Gotta go digging through the sticky thread to see if there is a cross reference for the oil filter now..........

Personally, I would follow the manual. If it says change at 50, I wouldn't change at 25. That just me, though.
I hear ya but i have turned wrenches my whole life. I have cut oil filters apart on many "new" engines and you wouldn't believe the stuff i have found. Casting sand is a biggie especially on the foriegn engines............

It certainly won't hurt anything to change early, but having turned wrenches your whole life, you probably know that cross-referencing filters can backfire on you. I tried that recently, and the filter I got didn't have holes on the top and the bottom where they were supposed to be...from NAPA of all places. The filters for the XR series machines are unusual (a check valve in them I think) and the service techs are being trained that not using the correct filter will void the warranty.

Fuel filter, cabin filter and oil filter are different on the XR series. All the (hydro and hydraulic) are the same as many other models. There is a filter list on this thread for the XR.
Factory filter prices are not that much different than aftermarket. At least until its out of warranty you might want to stick with factory filters.
Turbo engine filters all have "check valves" in my experience. It keeps the oil up in the passages for start up so the turbo and the engine in general don't run dry on startup. Most close tolerance engines in this day and age run check valves..........

No issue with changing oil more often than necessary, but I would use factory filters for that application. Not that expensive, and worth it for peace of mind.

I never wait for the first recommended change. The first change is usually the most contaminated with the initial break in.
