I just snagged a branch with my xr4046hc front left work light and it snapped off the fiberglass roof like a twig. I found out how to open the top from another member, thanks btw, and found out it is just a little aluminum nut cert type thing into the glass top without any metal at all backing it up. this is a heads up as it is very weak design and won't hold up long. the rears are mounted to the hinge assembly and they are fine. I am in the process of making a new bracket that is attached to the mirror mounts. I feel this is a design flaw and everyone should be made aware.

Ouch!!! Sorry to hear a branch busted your light. I know the front cab lights don't have much support. Glad I could help with you opening the top. Makes it nice for accessing the wiring or running new. Did it bust just the light or where the bracket mounts to the roof? Hope it is just the light. That's easier to replace than having to repair the roof.

it cracked the roof and the aluminum threaded tube came out. I epoxied it in again and it put the bolt back in. there is no metal support to it. I ended up coming up from the mirror mount to the height of the lights and ran a 1" square tube across to the other side. it is now hard mounted and is structurally sound. i am going to add a strobe bar across the front now also.

Good idea. I may do something similar. I currently have a piece of 1 1/2" angle bolted between the front lights for my strobes but wasn't happy about how flimsy the light mounts are with about 2 extra lbs of angle. The mirror support idea is much stronger.

I used some 3/8" x 1" flat stock for uprights and a piece of 1/8" x 1" box tube for the cross bar. hope that helps.
attaching to the mirror brackets means no drilling into the frame which has the heater hoses also.

I'll probably re use my 1 1/2" angle and use some 3/8" flat for the uprights as you did. Thanks
