Anyone here look into figgering out 'neutral' lever or switch for the XR 3100/XR4100 series tractors for the P.T.O? Share would make hooking up different implements easier by letting the P.T.O shaft from the Tractor turn freely.

I read or had heard that the MT series tractors have such an item.

The MT tractors indeed have a PTO shift lever on the left side of the seat. Yeah makes hooking up implements WAY easier.

I thought so. I should look threw part diagrams and see what, where and how there is to do that, if it is a valve or physically disengages p.t.o clutches or how ever it works.

I looked at the parts catalog for your tractor and there is no way to go around that. Basically the clutch pack for the PTO has a spring actuated brake that engages when the PTO is off and the gears are always engaged with no way to disengage like on the MT series with the PTO Lever.

Even the Mid PTO option for that XR series, will keep the rear PTO engaged even if you're just using the Mid PTO.

Well dang-it.... guess I'll keep using the pry bar trick to line splines up.

I have never actually owned or operated a tractor with a PTO neutral switch. I defiantly see the value!! What I typically do is hook the implement up to the hitch and raise it up off the ground a bit. Turning the PTO on the implement is much easier. Depending on the type of implement anyway. The harder part for me when hooking up the PTO is actually being able to slide it on the shaft! Grease helps.

The neutral switch would be nice for getting to the u-joint zerks for grease without unhooking too. Dang it! Now I need a PTO neutral switch! 🤣

That's what I have been doing. Hook-up implement, try to line spines up with p.t.o shaft and coupler, when they don't see eye to eye the pry-bar in the yoke with perswuation does the trick.;)
