Dang
I just bought they X585 and after reading all these posts re: 2210 and 4110, I'm kind of kicking myself for buying the X585. Where were you guys when I bought this thing? /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Well, it's not like you bought a pig and need to put lipstick and a dress on it to make it look attractive. You actually own one of the best multi-purpose, gonzo garden tractors ever made.

If you need to do more than what your X can do, don't waste time. Bite the bullet, buy your wife a day at the spa, and trade your 585 in for what you really need/want. I'm sure you will find your dealer most helpful, and a great financing special to boot. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Good luck.

JD,

I almost did what you did, but telling the salesman at the dealership what I intended to do, he pointed at the 4010 and said "I bet I can get you the 4010 CUT and be within $500 of the X585". He was within $600 and it was a done deal.

I was not completely happy with the entire sales process with this guy, but I will give him credit for pointing me in the right direction.

What are your needs? If you are mainly mowing grass and want to do some relatively light loader and landscape work, the 585 is a great machine.

Welcome!
I don't blame you for the X585, it looked like an awesome garden tractor for sure! I was almost there myself.
If you are having doubts maybe you can do the trade thing since you have just purchased. I agree also that if you are cutting grass, the X will do great. I also have a JD335 and if grass cutting only I would have stayed with that for my main mower. With the 48" deck it will cut as fast as it will go on smooth ground.

Well, I must tell you I'm stupid. Like I said I had the X485 for two weeks and traded up to the X585, so I could add the loader later. If I go back to the dealer he will probably go and get the straight jacket. I will stay with my X585 for 2-3 years, then trade up to the 4110. I love the X series, just unaware of the benefits of the 4000 series until I read the posts here. I thought the 4000 would be overkill, but in reading these posts, I've come to another conclusion. I'll just have to wait for my ultimate tool, the 4000 series. Just to let you know I have 5 acres, halk wooded half grass. Alot of work to be done with escavator and cat before I can really use the FEL. I'm just a little pissed with the dealer not realizing my lack of knowledge and telling what I needed, rather then selling me what I thought I wanted. Dang, for a little more I could of had the 4010. Hey does anyone know If you can use the JD promise twice? I.E. trade up from the X485AWS to the X585, then up to 4010? Like I said I must be stupid!!! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Not stupid, misinformed! That would be the dealers fault, none of your own.
To be honest I looked at the x series first. I was set, I really thought the 2210 was out of my price range. I was kinda kidding around and asked about the thing. It went from there.

JD,

Well----the bright side I can see is that there's a lot of guys out there who would be very happy to have to put up with the 585--that's a nice machine.

Are you going to get the loader for the 585 or wait until you trade up to the 4000 series? The cost of the loader for the X would be the difference between the 4010 and the 4110.

Good Luck

Bob

That was the question he asked earlier. He has already traded up once, can he do it twice????

I didn't see that post. but I would try it anyway, I'm sure that they would work out some kind of a deal.

...I have to agree.

Pride can be the biggest source of future regret.

Call your salesman and ask him how the two of you could have possibly overlooked the obvious: a true sub compact or a compact. If he doesn't wake up, you might consider speaking with the sales manager/general manager and letting him/her know that you are only now becoming aware of all that JD and their dealership has to offer. (How could we have overlooked a higher ticket item???)Don't talk money; talk about long-term customer satisfaction. I'd bet a dollar to a doughnut that your friendly neighborhood dealer can find a way to make this a win-win upgrade for all parties. If you don't ask, you'll never know....

When I first started looking at the 2210's I was at the dealer, and inquired about the pricing on an X series. The dealer did tell me that if you add up the options on the X tractor e.g. 4WD and diesel, you'd be over the price of the 2210. I went to the website and did some pricing again recently and it's true. You do get more tractor for the money on either the 2210, or the 4010.

Inbetween X and 2210, pretty sold on 2210. Test drove the 2210, 1st time. Great machine, easy & smooth operation. Wish the seat was taller back. Nice would be tilt steering. Real, or a lot closer to it, 3pt on the 2210 (& up) vs X important. Heigth of X serices limits 3pt attachments that can be use, like a post hole digger. Big time & back saver on landscaping and more. 2210 (& up) big improvement in FEL # cap. also.

Some consideration of 4K line, but minimum would be 4115 since the 4010 is less hp (18) vs 2210 (23), 4115 (24). But then the 4115 is a fair bit bigger than a 2210.

Words to live by, "buy the one you want." (wasn't that Crosby, Stills and Nash?)
