I have about 1.25 acres to mow, and a 90 foot drive way to plow. That being said, I'm looking at the three tractors above.

I'm not convinced that I need the 2210, besides, it is much more expensive. No plans for any rear powered accessories, just one awesome mowing machine.

I also am not convinced that I need the diesel over the Kawacker V Twin.

But that is why I'm asking for some feedback.

So let me know your comments pro and con.

Dan

Buy the 2210. For the price, you can not beat this tractor. I have owned an x595, 2210, and now a 3520. The low range, three point and rear pto are things that you may not need, but come standard on a 2210. The 2210/62c deck is quieter than the x595/62c deck. The gear box on the deck is supossedly different. The engine is identical on both tractors, but in backwards on the x595 putting the fan closer to you and making more noise. The x595 has more candy as far as styling and creature comforts and was a lot better thought out, but looks only gets you so far. That's my two cents.

Good luck

I looked at that same choice and took a long time to decide. I bought the 2210 and it has been great. I am not using any rear implements at this point - but it is nice to know I can down the road. The mowing deck is great and the loader has so many uses. Check your prices carefully - the 2210 is usually cheaper than the x595.

Look at the thread below ("Why did you buy a X595 over a 2210") for some very very good comments.

With advice from fellow TBN'rs, I upgrade my X485 to a X595. (2210 is a better buy but an overkill for me.)

The Yanmar diesel is superior to the Kawasaki engine in every way. I do not suggest going for the X585. The delta in $s is a wash over the long term ownership of the tractor. Unbelievable torque and smoothness over the gas model. Plus after reading the repair manual, the Yanmar is built awhole lot better.

Diesel vice Kawi F.I Gas: Click on Awlchu post history to read up on a surging issue with the gas model.

I had an X series used exclusively for snow removal, which it did well. If kept in an unheated garage, it is possible to freeze the chute rotation pulley setup solid. Happened twice in three years---slushy snow packs solid then freezes. I have some digital pics if I can ever figure out how to post. (the X and the 2210 use the same snow blower head).

Side note----if you buy one, inspect the blower unit and eyeball the drive chain tension when manually rotating the auger. I went through a pair of 40 tooth gears before finding one that was concentric. The gears were welded to the hub off center, causing irregular chain tension.

The X series is shorter than a 2210 if space is absolutely critical, although if you remove the 3 point arms it isn’t by much. Because the X is more compact (length and height), it is also a bear to get at some parts. Mine split a hyd hose fitting that went into the steering box. Had to drop the steering shaft( front instrument panels, steer wheel &, shaft) , and the rear fender unit to remove the box to replace the hose.

The “Mid” PTO snow blower set up on the X follows a straighter line than the 2210. The PTO shaft on the 2210 has a 30 or so degree angle to it where it meets the front “quick tach” set up, whereas the X series is straight. Minor difference, but it does make installing the PTO shaft a bit easier.

X series uses two steering column mounted levers to control the hydraulics. The 2210 uses a single floor mounted joy stick. Joystick allows enabling of both functions at once. Check out the float position on both set ups and decide which is easier for you to use.

And finally, there’s no factory installed PTO reverse lock out on the 2210. As delivered, the X series set up is a PITA for blowing snow, unless you were born with a third arm……..

al3,

Can you please elaborate on why snowblowing is difficult with the X585? I just purchased one with a 47" blower. Not delivered yet. But, would like to know any issues sooner rather than later.

I seriously looked at the 2210 and almost bought it. But, the ROPS will make it slightly difficult to get around my property as I have a lot of trees.

Purchased an X585 with 3pt, snowblower and 54" deck

Thanks
John

Same gearbox on either deck. Those decks all come in the same crate, and the only difference is the attaching parts bundle for use on the 2210, that includes the different lift arm mouting hardware, and 3ph lift kit.

This question gets asked over and over, but you already mention no need for rear 3ph or pto. As mentioned before, will the ROPS be in the way with your mowing? Have you driven both tractors to compare seat comfort, operator controls, etc? They are both great tractors, very dependable, and use the same decks.

As far as Kawi vs Yanmar, IMHO the diesel is more durable, less maintenance, better fuel economy, but for your application, mowing and snowblowing, the Kawi is well suited
for your needs also, and should provide years of great service.

JJE64,

I have used the 46" snowthrower for over 10 years with no troubles, first on a 425 and now on my 2210. At that time I chose the 46 because of my gravel drive, today it is paved and I would go with the 47. You should experience no difficulties with either tractor, although the diesel always gets my vote (better torque, less maintenance, better fuel-economy) although it is more costly and may not be in your budget. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

JJE64: Difficult? Not really difficult...... annoying may be a better description.
The X series (as most lawn/garden tractors manufactured these days) is delivered with a "safety" feature that, without a positive action on the operators behalf, will disengage the PTO when going from forward to reverse. Snowplowing typically involves a lot of forward/reverse transitions. If your driveway is like mine, at the same time you need to back up, you'll often also need to rotate the blower/thrower chute. So you need one hand on the steering wheel, one hand on the hyd control lever to rotate the chute, and another hand to lift up the PTO level to prevent it from disengaging when your foot hits the reverse petal.
Yes, you can separate this into 2 distinct actions; i.e. Stop, lift the PTO lever, back up, then rotate the chute. But you'll be amazed at the perceived amount of time this wastes---especially if its 5 below and you have eyebrows full of snow and ice. There are work arounds to this item....
And for the record, the snow blower worked great. Only issue was the slot that the chute rotation pulleys traveled in (under the black plastic housing) twice in three years freezing solid after a build up of slushy snow. I kept the blower unit when I upgraded to the 2210 and then the 4110.
BTW, wheel weights and chains were very useful with the 485. Probably overkill with the MFWD on your 585.

I feel your pain regarding the "third hand". I have a GT with a 42" blower. You need to lift the blower, hold back the PTO button and THEN backup. I got to the point where I just drag the blower backward a foot or so while I am holding back the PTO. If you hold the button up before you start to reverse, you can let go of it once you are in motion.

My brother has a 2210 w/a blower and is more than happy with it. Unless you are keeping it in a heated garage, get a block heater. It is easier on the motor.

The X-Series are excellent machines, albeit a little to pricey for my liking. I think they really excel in operator comfort and ergonomics. Given the choice though, I would opt for the 2210.
