Hey everyone!
Hoping you guys might be able to help with out with an issue I am having. My father owns a John Deere x475 and has had it for several years to mow his lawn, which is a couple of acres. Not sure exactly when he bought it but it has roughly 700 hours or so on it. It doesn't have a front end loader or anything like that on it, the only thing it is used for is cutting grass with the belly mounted deck on it.
Up until now everything has been working great on it but a couple of days ago he went out to mow the yard and it started to make a pretty loud whining noise. The noise starts almost as soon as you turn the engine on but usually stops, or at least gets much quieter whenever the hydraulics are in use. While raising or lowering the deck and steering the noise goes away but as soon as the demand for the hydraulic pressure goes away it comes back pretty quickly. Occasionally the noise will go away even after using the hydraulics but usually comes back in a few minutes. The hydraulics still seem to work alright, maybe a little sluggish but if it is it isn't super noticeable.
So he called me up and I had him bring the mower over to do a full service on it since it was in need of one anyways. We did pretty much everything, changed oil + filter, replaced fuel filter, replaced air filter, changed spark plugs but most importantly changed the hydraulic oil and filter. I was hoping changing out the hydro fluid and filter would fix the issues but unfortunately it was still there after we finished. When changing the oil it didn't look particularly bad or seem to have anything like metal shavings or other debris in it.
Any thoughts on what could be the issue or how I should go about diagnosing the problem?
Thanks so much!
