We were hit hard and I made a run around the property at least as far as I could get.

Well, in the grand scheme of things, you're doing OK...
Nothing hit your house or vehicles...no injuries and you must still have electricity (since you're posting).
And, look at that firewood you'll have come Winter...

dex - I have a good friend that lost 300 hogs due to some wild cherry trees that were knocked down in a storm and he did not see them and the hogs ate the leaves and all died....huge loss...so I hope you have no animals that could happen to.

I hate the high winds when we get them or the Ice storms....I almost always know I am in for some serious work on the farm cleaning up the downed trees and branches....Sorry it happened to you..

Roy you are so right. We have been without power since Friday at 6:30or so. I have been running my small diesel generator and keeping a window unit ac and an oxygen concentrator running. Thankfully there was no damage to the house or any buildings. It is a mad house looking for fuel and people are at there best at times like these. I went out to Church and to look for fuel for myFIL he wanted to keep running his gas generator but went through all his gas.

Here are some more I snapped with the smart phone. After looking at these pics they didnt come out so well. that log that the helmet is hanging on is 2 foot thick at least at chest height.

I will not be able to cut the one with the helmet in the pic because it drops straight off behind the log and it would be dangerous to cut it with the equipment I have.

Glad to hear that you and the family are ok. Be careful during the cleanup, blowdowns can be dangerous.

Sorry to hear of the storms out there, we lost close to 50% of our pines and a lot of hardwoods in an ice storm a few years ago. I hope everything turns out OK.

We are probably going with a whole house propane unit one of these days, we are getting too old to be dragging generators out much longer..

Thanks guys. I didn't get very far around the property and I hate to see the trees in this condition but lets face it thy are trees and it doesn't compare to what the people all across the storm damaged states are going through.
I have had my little Chinese Yanmar clone running nearly non stop to keep my father in laws oxygen concentrator running as he was down to 2 bottles Friday and he couldn't get any more and is on the list. He wanted to run his generator and did for about all day Saturday. After realizing how long the power may be off Both my FIL and MIL decided to come to the house where we are better prepared to go the long haul. I never though of my back up generator as anything more than a convenience but for the last couple of days it is on life sustaining duty. I have his gasoline generator is on standby in case something happens to the Aurora diesel Chi clone. I have to admit it has performed very well running a freezer, fridge, 12K BTU 120V window AC, 240V submersible well pump and 1/2 dozen fans all on continuous. Then I am juggling the microwave, toaster, coffee maker and a few other high watt devices on an as needed basis. Others are not fairing as well, I have another back up 4KW back up unit out on loan to another person on life saving equipment. There are so many people in need and its hard not being able to do more.

TripleR after reading my previous post I fear that it may come across as a bit flippant. I apologize if I offended you. That is not at all what I meant to convey. This has been a very stressful 10 days.

Its about time for me to start cutting and dragging in some of the bigger logs for firewood. Its a shame to burn it but by the time I would get it hauled to a saw mill I would have more in it than its worth. Probably enough wood to heat for 5 years down already. Seems like a lot of it is in the steepest areas of the property.
