Hello all!

I came across a cub cadet hds 2135 and attachments package on craigslist recently asking $2500.00.

The ad said it had been sitting in a storage shed for a couple years, but said it ran great when parked. When I went to look at it, it was not in running condition. It has a bit of rust and a few dents. Appeared to be a mouse nest under the hood.

He indicated it needed a new battery. He was going to call me when he got it running. Three weeks later he hasn't called. I get the feeling he couldn't get it going.

The implements to go with it are: mower, tiller, plow, blower, cart. I figure have some good value. As a package it seems like a nice thing to not have to track down attachments and have it all together. The attachments are also a bit rusty and haven't been maintained or used recently.

So should I pursue it?

After my experience with Cub Cadet and a warranty repair on a brand new UTV ... I wouldn't buy a Cub Cadet ANYTHING.

Your mileage may vary.

Like you said having all the attachments right there is very appealing...still that's like a 15 yo tractor. However MTD did build them better back then because at that time there was still many competing manufacturers.

I have 3 running tractors and would still be interested in that deal...but not at the asking price. Please keep us posted.

ps my very first tractor purchase (maybe in '75) was a similar deal 1966 cub with all the attachments and they served my well for a very long time.

that model was manufactured btw '94 - '98, so as savageactor7 points out - it's 15 yrs old or better. does not sound like it was maintained or stored properly, so the price is higher than you would expect to be paying. wiring issues may be present if there was a mouse nest under or in it. still, it might be worth making an offer on the package though.

On the one hand, no way is that pile of crap worth $2500. With it not running, it's basically worth only the cost of the attachments.

On the other hand, the 2135 is a real workhorse and a very well made machine. I've been using mine hard for ten years now, but it was running when I bought it used for $900 with a mower deck.

The basic Kohler engine and hydrostatic transmission are very durable. If you are capable of reading the wiring schematic and doing a simplified rewiring and replacing the ignition switch and PTO switch and cleaning out the gas tank, chances are, you'd wind up with a versatile combination.

Bottom line - only to into a fifteen-year-old-non-running project if you are an experienced, competent DIY and can buy it at a bargain.

I've owned LOTS of Cubs, and still own lots of Cubs......but the 2135 would not be my pick for running attachments. You could get into a much nicer 3000 series for that price. 2500 is wayyy over the top.
Given the situation, I'd run away.....

Okay. Thanks for your comment and to all others. The seller never returned my call to say he got it running or still wanted to sell, so I think at this point, with the questionable condition and seller, I'm going to move on.

May move on to a "dream machine", like a John Deere X7xx or Kubota BX, with mower, loader, etc. Although, I don't NEED that much tractor, I'd have fun finding uses for it.

One other newer model I'm considering is the Husq 322T AWD front deck. Looks very interesting an maneuverable and can handle my steeper areas plus maybe snow removal.

Any thoughts on those?
