hi,
would you buy a 2011 JD2520 with 2600 hours and no FEL or MMM for $6000. i was thinking of getting it and buying an H130 FEL ($4000) to mount on it. that makes it $10k. run it till it drops and then either repower it with a new yanmar engine or upgrade to a 2025R or 2032R and move the FEL over.

here's a pic

I would not. 2600hrs is quite a bit. If you ran it 8hrs a day, M-F for a entire year that is only 2080hrs.

I think you would be money ahead in the long run to buy new, especially with the financing & cash deals from JD now. Plus you get a 6 year warranty.

One of my Silverado trucks had an engine hour meter. Dividing miles / hours average overall speed was something in the range of 30 - 35. On that basis 2,600 hours might be equivalent to 78,000 - 91,000 miles. Lots of cars / trucks are sold with many more miles. In my RV group members talk of Onan generators with Yanmar engines being able to run 10,000 hours with proper maintenance. I'm not familiar with current pricing for a used 2520, to know if $10K is a good price compared to a low hour unit with FEL attached.

Make sure you will not need to add anything (mid PTO - for example) to the tractor to make it suitable for your needs as JD parts can be very expensive. Here is a link to TractorHouse with lots of 2520 for sale. Quick look suggests $10K may be a bit high with high hours. I saw one there with 3800 hours / $9,800. I would consider about $5000 and put aside $1000 for things you may need to fix. This would be a reasonable way to get into a tractor at a lower cost. If you consider a new one costs about $14,000 with 15% off of list this could be a good deal for you. If well cared for you could expect to get an easy 4000 hours without much trouble.

Personally I prefer to buy new and keep them forever that way I know what the tractor has had in the way of maintenance and use. But everything is used once you get it home too.

i guess the biggest worry is not knowing how well it was cared for in those 2600 hours. not just the engine worry, but trans/rear, pto clutches, hyd pump, etc... its very tempting. i'm also looking at the 2720 series. a bump in power. avg used tractor/FEL is around $14k. i really like the new 2038R, but too much electronics and EPA stuff.

thanks for the replies.
