A tank and pump from An RV, motor home, travel trailer or camper for storing and pumping diesel fuel. </font>

It will depend entirely on the materials used. Obviously, designed for water and diesel is a different animal altogether. Just as an example, take a brake master cylinder seal sometime and put it in a jar of gasoline. It'll look like a donut in very short order.

You're dealing with a hazardous, volatile, explosive fluid. Why not use equipment specifically designed for it?

I would use a 12 volt fuel pump or transfer pump made for that reason. I have heard that certain types of plastic/poly tanks will slowly dissolve. You would have to research this since I have no facts to prove this.

1*There are only 2 main components here the tank and the pump. As to the pump it makes no difference what liquid is in the tank since it isn't submerged in the liquid nor does the liquid circulate through the pump.
2* were only looking at 12 to 18 gallon here and it's less violate than gasoline.
I already know the tank is designed to stand the pressure the only issue is the compatibility of the plastic tank and the diesel.
Many of todays tractors mowers, etc., have plastic gas tanks.
3* Probably because I haven't seen a 15 gallon set up rigged up like I want it.

1*Not sure but I think the liquid circulates through those pumps which is what I am trying to avoid. The RV pump I have in mind does not run the liquid through it.
2*I'm not sure about the water tank being compatible with diesel either at this point.

I may have to go with the RV pump and a plastic tank from a tractor or some such thing.

Safety may be an issue here. The electric portion of the pump should be explosion proof. Other than that it should work. Think I'd look for a proper transfer pump. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Why cob up a fuel tank and transfer pump for a 10k piece of machinery.

What does the 10k piece of machinery have to do with a fuel tank and transfer pump ?

Sorry I don't get the connection ?

LB, I think we're all assuming you'll be "connecting" your fuel tank/pump to your tractor with a hose to refill. I think we're also questioning the notion of a potentially harmful/dangerous fuel tank being connected to our expensive tractors. Perhaps we've misunderstood your intention with your fuel tank/pump arrangement. Our apologies if that is the case /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

1*The problem with that is this type of a pump would be the pump is connected to the tank and the fuel circulates through the pump.
My reasons for using a RV pump.
1-Pump is not attached to the tank
2-No fluid circulates through the pump.
The advantage of this is The pump can be located away from the tank and the tank can be hauled to the station to refill without dragging the pump along with it.
Also by setting the tank up like this you have other options to enable you to obtain fuel from the tank.
Such as an air compressor, hand tire pump or plugging it into any cigarette lighter plug of any vehicle.
No only is this setup portable but it can be used at any location.

2*Since the pump would be located away from the tank and there is never any fuel in the pump that should eliminate this concern.
