Would a 1025R make a better lawnmower on hilly terrain than a x758?

I looking for a new lawnmower and see the 1025R with just a mower deck might cost about the same as a x758.

For mowing on hilly terrain the X739 would be my choice. It is a full-time 4-wheel drive and four-wheel steering L&G tractor.

I don't know about the 1025R, but my X758 is like a billy goat on the side hills. Unbelievable how stable it is even when traversing parallel to fairly steep slopes. And the 4wd provides excellent traction no matter the terrain. Purchased my X758 new several years ago to replace my faithful JD318 and was very impressed with it from day one. :)

I'm pondering this same issue lol. I won't tell you my full story because I tend to think in circles. I will say that the overall picture seems to be that, yes, it will work but is slow and uncomfortable and a little less stable than a X700 series or older x595. When you add mow speed and comfort into the equation the x700 series is more like a Cadillac as are some commercial zero turns which are like supercharged Cadillac's. If you need to tow stuff on hills the GT and SCUT win out but if its light enough a commercial zero turn will absolutely tow. Hope this helps

Two other things to consider.
Will you ONLY mow? If so get the x758, but if you want to do other things, like loader work, get the 1025r.

The other thing is the ROPS on the 1025r. Can it get everywhere you need to mow? A friend has a 1023e and had broke tree branches with the ROPS. He also broke off one of the high mounted lights on the ROPS. After breaking the one light, he moved them to the inside (for better protection), then with the ROPS folded down, hit a branch backing up. The top of ROPS (part that folds) hit the inside mounted lights and broke both of them off the ROPS. He told me if the ROPS came off it would be off. But it also has mounts for the fenders and hitch mount.

If you are making tight turns on the hills then the X7's are probably better with the full time front wheel hydraulic drive that adjusts each wheel's speed based on the turning angle. The ten series has basic part time 4 wheel drive that can tear up the grass on a tight turn.

I would think the X7's have a lower center of gravity as well, like others have noted my X739 sticks to steep hillsides like glue while making tight turns around tree trunks.

I have a X740 2 WD and love it on our hills, but really 4 WD is the way to go, but still manageable. With fluid in the rears and a hundred ponnds on each rear it would take a very steep hill to tip it up. The center of gravity is much lower on this than the 10 series and so is the clearance underneath. For mowing only, I would stick with the 700 series. Plus you can get a 3pt cat 1 hitch for attachments, and front mounted attachments are available all over.

If you need a FEL, then the 1000 series is the way to go but can still make it usable on hills to cut grass if set up as I mentioned before.

Thanks for the inputs. I do have a compact tractor so I really just need a good lawnmower that can handle the steep hills and rougher terrain. The cost of the x758 and 1025R is about the same assuming I only get the mower deck on the 1025R. If the two are both good mowers I was thinking the extra capabilities of the 1025R could be beneficial over the long run.

My 445 does a pretty good job on the hills now with the diff lock but I have had a few events where a 4wd would have been better.

A commercial Ztr such as the toro 3000 series or higher and the Ferris isx800 or higher will mow on hills. The bigger and steeper the hills the higher up you will need to go in the commercial Ztr sector to accomplish that task. That said, as a pure mower the highest end of most commercial lines is cheaper than or equal to the cost of the x7xx series mowers as well as the 10 series.

Of the two, the x758 is a better mower. You give up some cut quality, stability, and have more lawn damage with the 1025R to get extra capabilities that your Kioti already has in spades. I'd buy the x758 over the 1025R for a superior lawn mowing machine, as I already have a CUT much like yours.

My next-door neighbor (5 acre parcels) has a x758 that he mows his lawn and brush with. It does a great job. Truly a cut above the rest of the JD mowers.
