i have bad luck! i just bought my first tractor a nh tc21da
i got it monday, tuesday morning, i went to start it, and the cooler lines blew because of the cold they said, dealer came out to fix them no problem, today wed. same thing go out to start it to move snow, and a line blew near the clutch pedal, whats with this, i only got to use my tracto two hours. and so far two repairs? the dealer said that its due to the cheap china hoses that they come with, and the fact that its been really cold making the oil thick doesnt help! so the new hoses are on order they uses the last ones on the cooler tuesday. i was reading the manual, and it doesnt tell you what kind of hdry oil to use, just nh134 oil, does anyone know what oil i can buy at a parts store, rather then having to go and get their oil all the time? plus i dont understand why they use a piece of rubber hose three inches long to connect hydro lines, why dont they use threaded couplers? thanks for your help....

What you need is a low temp UTF, it is a thinner viscosity and might help with your problem. The NH spec. it probably needs to meet is something like ESN-M2C-134-D. Off the top of my head I only know of two low temp UTF's. John Deere Low-Gard (Hy-Gard is their high temp oil) or TRC's Low Temp UTF. You might be able to pick up Low-Gard at the local JD dealer, the TRC oil has to be ordered and is delivered to your front door.

Get Amsoil AT-H, although odds are you can not get it at a parts store. I imagine they don't use thread couplers because of vibration.

Don't buy anything. This is your dealers problem. It is his job to put in new oil and good hoses. If he calls the original hoses "cheap china hoses" then he should replace all of them. Your problem is NOT normal. Many of us live in cold country air as does your dealer. You bought a tractor that should be expected to be available 364 days a year. As soon as you change hyd oils then your dealer is off the hook. Remember however that in real cold weather you need to start off slowly until your HYDRO OIL is warmed up. Just because your engine is warm does not mean that your hydro oil is warm. Be patient and insistent with your dealer. Good Luck, Frank

Presuming the tractor is new, the dealer should have prepped it for cold weather. He should also have given you instructions about how to operate it, including any warm-up period needed in cold weather as opposed to warm weather. Don't get mad at him, just be patient and insistent that things be done right, preferably the first time. Talk with your salesman and the service manager at the same time if you can.

yes, its a 01 tc21d with 180hr on it, it looks like new, a guy had it and sold it to the dealer so he could get a quad! he didnt use it, only when he first build his house then it sat in the garage...
today the dealer sent over a guy to fix the oil leak, once again, nice guy no problems on the fix at all, so far good service. while he was warming up the machine in my garage, he moved the hoe a little, then i noticed oil on the florr, here we go again! so he took a look, and found two hoses on the hoe leaking fluid, he told me that its not right, they shouldnt leak, some wetness is normal, but not like this! he told me that the cold may have caused the other leaks but not he thinks that due to the fact that the machine sat for a very long time, all the seals are very dry, and now that im working it, leaks are forming. he told me that if it was up to him he would get the machine back to the shop to check it over and fix it, but its not up to him, and he will tell the owner of the shop what he found and see what he say to do about this, i told him that im glad it happened while he was here to see that im not messing with it, and for owning it since monday, putting two hours on it, it has needed three repairs, i cant except it like this!! i spent alot of money on it. i would expect these problems on a machine worth alot less then what i paid for this one!!
as far as the way i warm things up, i let them sit for atleast 20 to 30 min idle. then move all controls slow to get fluid moving, once all parts have moved then i start working, i do this with all my machines/ trucks..
i cant believe how new this thing looks, i thought i was getting a good machine, i looked at alot that already had leaks for far less money, atleast i knew those leaked! lol

scag...have a little patience...if the dealer is "on your side" and will take care of these issues as they arise, in the long run you'll have a great tractor...those 21's are tough little guys...yea, it's really annoying but once these are gone you'll be a happy camper...might not be a bad idea to have the dealer take it back and run it through its paces to get the bugs worked out.

the owner of the dealer called me today, he told me that they will come and get the machine early this week and take care of all the defects it has. i asked if i woud be charged for anything, he said that its not my fault and they will cover everything! NOW FOR THE TRUTH! the sales man told me that they serviced it and found nothing wrong with it at all, the owner told me today that when they first got the machine in, they had to replace a seal and a hose that was leaking. i guess if you ask a sales man hes going to tell you what you want to hear.. the owner of the shop did tell me that its a good machine and he has no problem standing by it! he said he was sorry that this is happening and is going to see that its right! i think that ever though i have had problems with leaks, the dealer has been nice about it so far. ive bought new equipment from my old dealer and didnt get this type of service!
