Kubota L245DT
Hi All.
Well I started working on my Kubota L245DT today with not much luck here is what I found so far. I put new glow plugs in and emptied old diesel out and was checking electrical connections low and behold the glow plug switch has the wires cut so the glow plugs are not getting any electric, and I do not know where the wires are supposta be attached haven't gotten a shop manual yet ordered the owners manual. There is another switch on dash I guess is for the lights they dont work either yet. In the transmission between your feet there is a screw cap opened that up and it shows no fluid at all I see a shaft of some sort is there supposta be oil in this hole? If so what kind? I don't know if I bit off more than I can chew on this project it is looking bleak. I put a new fuel filter on which other owner by-passed. haven't cleaned tank out yet but will do so before I put fresh diesel in. Am going to get new fuel lines just to make sure have clean passage to injectors. If anyone has any info. on this model or knows of anybody that has a repair manual for sale let me know I have tried a few places on web to no avail. Took air cleaner off filter looks pretty good 2 of them but container had mud dobbers in so cleaned all out and reinstalled it. Does anybody know where they sell used parts for this let me know thanks Dennis /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I also have a L245DT and what your talking about is the fill hole for the Hyd. Fluid to check the level their is a bolt on the right side of the case about even with the fill hole. Remove the plug and if fluid runs out it is full if not add fluid until it does.
Have you blead the air from all the fuel lines? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Dennis,

You can get an exploded parts manual on line for free. Just go to TractorSmart and look for Manuals, then L Series, then there's a drop-down box to select your model. Fill out the form and Ronnie will send you a .pdf file to use on your computer. You can also print it out and put it in a binder to use in your shop. (A great resource. Thanks again, Ronnie!)

You can order parts for this tractor from any Kubota dealer. They still stock most of the mechanical parts, but not cosmetic (like the hood). If you don't have a local Kubota dealer, you can order most parts through TractorSmart, too.

Once you get it running, the first thing you should order and instal is a ROPS. Kubota still sells them for your tractor, and they're cheap. Here's a recent discussion about the ROPS program, with links to the Kubota pages.

I also think you are on the right track. Tractorsmart.com is the only place I would consider buying parts. Much much cheaper than a dealer and the dealer might have to order anyway. Ordering from TS I can order on Monday and have it on Thursday or Friday...all for $5 shipping. The parts are dropped shipped directly from Kubota. Only time I had to wait longer was when I ordered some decals that were on a boat in transit and an owners manual. Kubota prints these as they are needed. Filters and such he stocks.

The process you are taking is exactly what I would do, clean fuel, filters, etc. I might be more ancy(sp?) to try and fire it up but I believe you said this one was sitting for a while.

Depending on where you live you may not need the glow plugs to start. Even cold (but not sub zero) if may take a few more cranks to get it going. But do NOT use starting fluid.

Also let us know if Tractorsmart is still giving away parts manuals. I seem to recall asking for one and saying they cost now. I think some of his are showing up on Ebay.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Hi Richard.
Thank's for the info. Hope I can get the thing running. On the dash there is a push switch that the guy I bought it from would push and hold in and count to 5, he said that was for the glow plug to pre. warm them? Well I took the dash off was thinking of sandblasting and repainting it that;s when I found the switch he was pushing in was not even hooked up the wires were cut? As for this if it is to help warm the plugs I don't think it will help(ha ha) do you know anything about this? Also you said to bleed the lines for fuel, how do I do this? I am going to work on it again tues. or wed. get new fuel line's and clean out tank and get new diesel to put in. Then maybe try and start it??? The guy I bought it from was selling it for a friend that went back north so it sat for 1.5 years without starting but I see no leaks on the engine or transmission guess that is good. Sorry to be so winded here, but trying to get any and all info. I can get before I screw something up.

Thank's
Dennis
