Well, I got the PA30 and have used it to drill two holes for corners for a new fence extension. Works good. Little bit of a learning curve for me as this is the first time I've used an auger on a backhoe. Second hole was better than the first by far.

That unit is HEAVY though.

Paid $2350 for the PA30 and that seemed like a lot but I think it is going to prove worth every penny. Hand digging holes for corner posts is no fun but it's a lot easier with this.

12 inch auger bit does good holes for cross ties.

I've got some hard clay and it shows no hesitation.

I'm sure Curly Dave will have no problems with the coupler.

CurlyDave is waiting with bated breath (which is a lot better than baited breath).

Two bits came with the auger head -- 12" and 18".

The auger was a Bobcat brand, but the hydraulic motor has an Eaton label on it, and the bits have Pengo teeth.

I tried looking up the number on the motor, but could not find a simple cross-reference to a standard Eaton offering. Too bad because it would have made for easy parts purchase. Must have bee a special OEM model.

The Pengo teeth are in pretty good shape, and the part numbers are still visible. I will record those before I use it, so I can get spares.

The guy I bought it from claimed it had seen very little use, and I believe him because the paint on the auger bits is mostly intact.

Wow, an auger on a backhoe off a bobcat sounds amazing, I would love one. I recently rented a bobcat with an auger do dig a bunch of holes with (18 inchers) and have some massive 18' 6x6's to set. I have had some employee troubles lately, so I have been doing it alone. I just set my backhoe bucket on the side of the post and put two tie-down straps on it, one over the teeth (and around the post), and the other toward the back of the bucket. This way I can pick them up and set them fairly easily with the backhoe. Try it when it comes time.

Actually, I have a Bobcat brand Model 10 Auger that I found on eBay for $750. My intention is to use it on my JD 110 TLB. jenkinsph and Two_bit_score also have JD 110s, and have the JD PA30 auger.

The Bobcat Model 10 is approximately equivalent to the JD PA15 auger, and jenkinsph was kind enough to fabricate an adaptor for me, so I can attach mine to the backhoe.

Sorry to hear about your employee troubles.

Around here, the economy is so bad that if I wanted to hire a guy to unload railcars full of manure with a garden trowel, I would have a line of applicants a couple hundred yards long.

I can understand employee troubles. :D I had my 22 yr old helping me with the ties and when he had to leave I used the forks to move 'em and just tipped 'em off into the holes. Your idea about strapping them to the bucket sounds like an excellent one that I'll probably try.

WOW!

The coupler jenkinsph built arrived today, and it is great!

He knew I had it before I did. He sent me a message asking if I had gotten it and I said no. He said it should have been delivered, and told me to look tomorrow.

Well, when I told DW I was expecting a heavy package, she said: "Oh is that the thing in front of my car?" Turns out it had been delivered and she parked right in front of it.

It is safely in the garage right now and is going up to Oregon with me for some exercise over July 4.

Couldn't be better if John Deere himself had made it.

I see this is your first post but it is hard to determine your intentions or the apparent question you are raising.

I know this is an old thread but was wander what y'all thought.
There is a reasonably priced used PA30 near me. Im in the market for a hydraulic PHD. The catch is my flow is 9.5gpm @ 2500psi. With this flow be painfully slow with my tractor?

Yes, it will be slow but if mounted on the backhoe or fel either way you have down pressure. Does not take many turns to sink most bits, may add a minute to a deep hole. I would still prefer the heavy hydraulic set up to a 3ph type.

Just make sure the PA 30 in question is verified to be in good shape. I remember one poster getting a piece of junk and was not happy with it.

I do appreciate the input. Unfortunately, it has been a little while and no longer available.
