1964 Ferguson 35 deluxe
Ok, I thought you all might like to see a short video of my Woods ss74 snow blower. This snow blower only has a 24" three bladed fan. The snow blower is on a 1964 Ferguson 35 deluxe with power steering and live pto. The tractor has the four cylinder Perkins gas engine with only 2,500 hours on the original motor. I have made some updates to the snow blower unit. I made an electric chute rotator and an electric flapper controller. I also just installed rubber tips on the blower fan. I have also made changes to the chute. I installed extensions to the chute as well as a close off panel for the chute. The fan has a 7/8" gap between the fan and the housing. I have looked at other units and they had the same amount of gap. The blower blew snow just it would not throw it very far. I wasn't happy with the gap so I installed thick rubber scrappers on the ends of the fan. The throwing distance of the blower has tripled. This video was the first time I used the blower after installing the rubber scrappers. I was blowing only three inches of heavy packed snow. After this video was filmed I tested the blower in 36" deep snow banks and it blew the snow very nicely. I'm happy with this latest upgrade. So, Enjoy and I look forward to your comments.

This summer I plan on removing the rubber scrappers and replacing them with metal extensions with a short rubber tips.

Does anyone have any videos or pics of updates they have done to their Woods snow blowers? I would love to see them especially those upgrades to the SS74 series and just general videos of them blowing snow.

Update:

Just finished blowing three inches of wet snow 3-27-2014. The blower worked great. The addition of the rubber scrappers on the fan proved today they were a great upgrade. Normally the blower would only blow snow of this type about ten feet. Since I installed the rubber scrappers, the snow blower now throws the snow around a hundred feet. I only wish I installed this upgrade at the beginning of the season.

I know this is an old post but do you have pics you could send me on where and how you added the rubber scrapers?

The rotor blade to housing gap on my SS74 is about a half inch. I tried rubber blade tips which did improve snow throwing distance but they wore out quickly. I clear a gravel surface and debris picked up by the blower made short work of the tips. It also caused excessive housing wear by trapping small stones between the rubber tips and the metal housing. IMO, the gap is there for a reason. Unless you clear a paved or very smooth firm surface, I would be careful about reducing this gap.

I recently converted my manual SS74 chute rotator and snow deflector to hydraulic using a $475 kit from Woodmax

Did anyone ever get “photos “ for upgrading the snowblower?

I picked up a SS74 without knowing of the problem. Anyway, I am lucky if it “spits” snow 10 feet!

Looking to do the upgrade.

Thanks
