I was at a dealer and noticed that the new Woods grading scrapers (land planes) were made in china. The black GS 30 series scrapers had 'made in china" stickers on them. The old burnt orange GSS series was made in the USA. I was disappointed to see the change from USA made to Chinese made. I looked both units over and noted some very minor differences.

The USA (orange) unit had a flat bar at the bottom of the mast, the Chinese (black) unit had a thinner piece of angle.

The scarifier pocket on the USA unit was welded whereas the Chinese unit had tabs and notches. The metal thickness looked the same so the CN unit was better built.

The runner on the USA unit was fabricated but the Chinese unit was formed. The thickness of the metal looked the same.
I think that all the parts between the Chinese and USA made unit are interchangeable. I was disappointed that Woods chose to move production off shore without giving a corresponding price decrease. Landpride is still made in the USA along with many other brands at the same price point.

I looked and did not see any other Chinese made Woods items, all the other implements had the US flag and the now standard peeling decals. Woods makes great product and I have no problem buying it. I just like it to be made by them in the USA.

What makes tabs and notched "better" than welded scarifier pockets.

I've just spent a dozen hours moving forest soil (and roots) with a box blade, and am thinking of one another foot wider.....

This might be opinion. But I think it lets more contact between the back and side so it will have less flex. These are landscape graders/landplanes/grading scrapers. The woods box blades I think are all still USA.

There are some excellent companies in china and american companies
have them make their equipment and they have spec's that they follow
to make the products. So yes china does make some very good equipment
The way things are going in china I don't believe that there will be many U.S. companies dealing with china
