JD 790
What is a recent (within the last 90 days) ballpark price for a Woods BH70-X backhoe to fit a JD 790? Is there an extra charge for JD green versus their standard color? Please tell me the complete out the door price including delivery and installation if you had the dealer do it. Is it realistic to order one to be delivered to my home and uncrate/assemble it myself? If a dealer wants less than $250 to uncrate one and attach it, then that is a fair price to me. If it is something like $600 assembly then that makes me seriously consider doing it myself. If you feel that a BH-70-X is the wrong choice for a 790, then please tell me why.

Dealers are encouraged to reply with all types of comments and suggestions.

I sent you a private message, but on second thoughts most of what I wrote might be of interest to others (or not).

Go to Woods' Web site, look for user and installation manuals.
This has worked WELL for me in the past, not just with tractor stuff, but in buying (or avoiding) other products.
Compare the installation instructions to your tools and skills, compare to the price quoted by a dealer, make a decision.

If you can find a dealer that does a LOT of business with Woods you MIGHT be able to get a good discount.
MOST manufacturers have a discount schedule to their dealers based on the volume of business, SOME dealers will pass along some of that discount - it worked for me.
Not really, I spent even more $s, but I did get more for it.

The Woods web site doesn't list a manual for the BH-70X on the JD 790. Instead they list the 6500 and 7500 hoes for the 790 (manual MAN0061, downloadable), also the 9000 hoe, manual 37974, downloadable.
The BH-70X and BH-80X have manuals for the JD 3x20 tractors (manual MAN0501, one that is listed but not published on their web site).
Maybe this answers your question re suitability of that hoe for your tractor ?

In browsing the installation instructions for my own tractor, it looks like a set of large sockets, a pair of decent jack stands and minimal skills are about all it takes - and about all I have.

Yeah, I'll probably do it myself if/when I have the bux for the hoe.

Be SURE that you are looking under the right hoe model as you find your tractor model.

I installed a BH6000 on a 2305. Pretty straight forward. Bolting on brackets. The only issues were in the packaging and instructions. The hardware included did not match the instructions. I had all the bolts and nuts in stock so it wasn't a problem for me. I called Woods and they sent the correct fasteners out quickly. I've read other posts stating similar problems. Instructions are clear with pictures. with some mechanical skills you shouldn't have a problem. Woods tech support is pretty good.

I already went to the Woods site, but they don't show the 6500 or 7500 as current offerings. I assumed they were replaced by the 70-X. I did see the subframe installation manual for the 790 to fit the old discontinued models. Maybe my question really should be this:

Can I still get a 6500 or 7500 from Woods? If so, would I be limited to existing inventory already on a dealers lot?

Woods answered my direct e-mail with a list price of approx $7900 for the 70-X but did not address the subframe issue or pricing. Matching green JD paint was a no-cost option with a ship time of just a few days according to Woods.

Given the way MFGs seem to build almost on demand for this type of attachment, I would think finding one a dealer's lot will be the only way you'll get one. Did you ask Woods if they could get you one of the older models? They know to whom they sold them, maybe they can point you.

I'd PRESS them to answer your questions directly and completely. Not to be ansy about it, but they seem to have a first line of responders who do some point and click, copy/paste and send off a canned reply. On PRESSING they will escalate to someone with more knowledge/competance.

I don't know how good their B2B info systems are, but it is at least POSSIBLE that they know what they sold to whom, how long they've had it and what time it usually takes to move it.
It is worth asking.

I just signed on a Kubota B3030HSD w/LA403 FEL this week with a dealer who sells a lot of Woods equipment and got the BH70-X as part of my package. The "discount" price I am paying is $5200 w/12" bucket, subframe installed and delivered; a mechanical thumb is $400 extra and needs to be ordered at the same time as the BH. The Woods was a dealer recommendation that I hadn't thought about, priced out considerably better than the Kuboda BH75, and has a curved boom on this new model. I believe that the 7000 series is no longer available, but some existing inventory may be available somewhere. Seems like it might work out for your JD but I'd call Woods direct and talk to their tech guys for specifics if you can't find out otherwise.

I just purchased a Woods BH80X Backhoe on 4/7/06 pricing was $7645.00 for a 4pt sub frame mount for my tractor, 12" bucket, 24" bucket & hydraulic pump kit. $458.70 for govenor, (tax) total price with pickup and delivery installed was $8103.70. I would use Woods Web site and do a search for dealers in your area. Then go talk to them for pricing. Good luck and happy buying. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
