Hello folks we just picked up a New Holland 1920 with about 1800 hours, it is our first family tractor. The machine came with a Woods 1009 FEL. There are several issues with it, the first and most major problem is that it is difficult to push the joystick lever forwards once a load is on the bucket, then it just drops a bit- we used it to unload a 5' bush hog and the lever was fine picking up, then it stuck until maybe 5 pounds of force when pushing it forward, then it kind of broke forward and the load dropped about a foot and started lowering normal. I of course stopped pushing forward on the joystick/lever and it did the same thing from a lower elevation. This happens when lowering the boom, not rolling out the bucket. The other problems I think i've already found some solutions for on here by searching around but I may back to later.

My thoughts: A hydraulic line up near the bucket has been replaced, may have air in the system? Do any of y'all really crack fittings open a little bit and run the machine to get air out? That seems pretty dangerous.

Can y'all help?

Thank you

To purge any air from a hyd system, just cycle the valve about 10 times.

If the load drops while shifting, you might check the load check valve . It is usually under a hex nut between the work ports or on the back side of the valve.

You might also check the bottom cans for water, rust. If so, inspect, clean and tighten the spool nut on the end.

Thanks J_J i'll head over to my dad's house later today and take a look at it. What do you mean by the "bottom cans"?

Hey guys I'm at my dad's now. Where is the hydraulic fill located? I just tightened up a real loose line and I'm scratching my head. I going to order an operator's manual, I think Rick showed a link on another post. Thanks!

Edit* I bought the .pdf operator's manual and downloaded it. Man does it help. We checked the hyd. level and it is good.

J.J. I removed the hex nut and examined the load check valve, all looked clean and operational. One thing my brother and I noticed is that when you pull the lever back to raise the boom up the valve kind of clicks the same way as when lowering it, and it doesn't always pop back into neutral by itself. There is a definite click and popping type sound when pulling and pushing the lever. What do y'all recommend?

Thanks again.

Thanks J.J.! I figured out what I was looking at, removed the can, cleaned out all the rust, lubed everything up, and it feels like new!
