Looking at pulling the trigger on one of these two units. Love the Hydro feed option....looked at a bunch of manual gravity fed ones and just can稚 live with the idea of having to baby sit each branch as it goes in. Looked at some gas powered ones, but why not use the torque of the tractor is what I keep coming back to....what do u all think. Going to be going on my B2301!

Howdy Dairborn. I own a Woodmax WM-8H. It has the hydraulic feed assist. I can't imagine a larger chipper without it. I can put in a 18-20 foot piece of "something" and simplly walk away to grab another one. Most times... If you have a bunch to do and if you want to be productive, spend extra on the hydraulic feed, you won't be sorry.

As far as the Woodmax product is concerned, it is a great unit. I have run mostly Locust through it and it barely notices it. I am running it on the back of a TYM 503 PTO, with roughly 48 PTO HP. None of them like green leaves but the Woodmax does a good job of keeping itself clear. It has never clogged...

Either way you go, get the hydraulic feed unit. Good luck.

Chaos is exactly right! Get the hydraulic feed unit; Load and Go.
I bought the Woodland Mills WC68 unit last year and have only ran a few thousand trees through it so far. Plans are for a few thousand more this weekend. Never had to baby it, running behind my Kubota L3400, 29 PTO hp.
I think you'll be very pleased with either brand, but I'd sure recommend a PTO driven chipper over a gasoline powered one nor a manual gravity feed one.

I have a Woodmaxx 8H. I had a manual feed chipper before that. I would not go back to manual feed.
17.5 pto hp is not much. You're not going to be chipping stems over 3-4". I have 32 pto hp and have to slow the feed rate down to a minimum to chip 5-6" or larger stems. Running the chipper is the one operation that makes me wish I had a much more powerful tractor.

Thanks everyone for the replys...I ordered the WC46 from woodland mills....slightly less in price, but biggest thing for me is how it sits compared to the woodmax. Seems that from what I can tell it sits higher up and seems to be better in line with the PTO of the tractor. Really it was a flip of the coin. Everyone seems to be happy with each company, and customer service seems to be there for everyone when they need it. I will let everyone know how it works out.

I agree, either the Woodmax or the Woodland Mills chipper should be just fine for your use. Both are quality chippers.

Although I bought the Woodland Mills I had first decided on going with the Woodmax. However, they didn't reply to my online questions, so that cost them a sale. My evaluation of each was just that close that a single problem ended up as the deciding factor.

My Google-Foo is apparently weak. I can't find the difference between the BX62 and the BX62S. Is the S much more desireable?

There's a lightly used BX62 nearby that has been stored in a garage for years. Seller wants $2300. There is also a neglected BX62 with hydraulic feed even closer, but that one has been stored outside most of its life. And it's $3800. I'm leaning toward the pampered one.

Very interested. Contemplating going to a B2301 and will likely need to replace my TPH-122 and don't need the leaf shredder any more because supply of leaves dried up.

I use the Woodland Mills WC68 on both of my Kubotas (19.5 PTO HP). They handle the bigger stuff with the hydraulics turned down a bit. The WC 68 is great on handling larger volume jobs, especially with the hydraulic feed.

But I also have (for 11 years) a MacKissic stand alone chipper/shredder that I use on smaller chores and find it just right for smaller jobs.

Both companies have been real good on customer service and make really good equipment in my experience.

Cheers,
