Seems like there would be trouble pulling a dump trailer and say a cord and a half to 2 cords of wood. I guess not pulling, more like stopping. We have a older 2940 and it's almost done. Has almost 10k hours on it and I do a LOT of work with it. (20 acres with cattle) and I was looking at a 4710 and I though to myself, what will happen if I am pulling a 3-5 ton load down the road and try to stop? Just wondering what your guys experiences are? Thanks.

The tractors you are comparing are in completely different classes, the 2940 being a row-crop utility and the 4710 being a compact utility. The 2940 also has almost double the weight and double the hp.
If you are looking for a tractor as a close replacement to the 2940, look into the large 5000 series and 6000 series tractors. For heavy work you need a heavy tractor, the new compact utility tractors just can't compare to the size tractor you are used to.

Yep... there's alot more "iron" in that 2940!! 
If you're looking at the new 5000 or 6000 series tractors; you should recognize that there's alot of difference between the D, E and M models in those series, too.
Heavier axles, transaxles and higher capacity hydraulics and more weight as you move up from D thru E to M's.
Same with the 6000 series all the way up to the Premium models.

Yeah I've been looking at the 5000 series. The different models (e, m etc...) also carry very different price tags. lol. It will be hard to go to something very small so I am thinking a 5055 or 5065 will probably get us close to where we were. Our 2940 I'm sure is no where near 81 HP any more. Would be hard to go to a compact after what we have. I'm sure I could get used to it though too. What do you guys think about the late 90's models of the 5400? For what we want, and what we want to spend I think they may fill the void nicely.

My neighbor's got a 5410 with the 542 self-leveling loader. MFWD, too. Very strong machine - I think it's 80hp and 65hp @ pto.
'Course it's likely 2,500lbs less than your 2940, too.
If you're still doing heavy field work, etc. with your 2940 - you should likely stay with a 6000 series machine. There's alot more iron on them bones than the 5000 machines and the 6-cylinder engines will crank out more low-end torque to pull through field chores better.
