Anyone blowing snow with a skid steer? Sold my tractor this spring and bought a skid steer. Putting a hydraulic blower on it. I STRICTLY do rural vacation homes and some of them are reasonably steep. Not blowing on a regular basis, only when the straight blade guys can't push it any more or if someone hasn't plowed all winter as many of these homes are not occupied Nov-April but need to get LP in on occasion. I always ran H-Pattern chains on the back and studded truck chains on the front of my tractor. Wondering how chains are on a Skid Steer or would i be better off with studs in the tires?

The skid steers at the ski resorts have chains on all 4 tires. I’d skip the studs.

You want 2 link ladder chains for all 4 wheels. Take the wheels off and install the chains that way.
Your going to want let some air out of the tires and tighten the chain up to the last link on the inside
making sure the cross chain rests inside the tire lugs and then do the same on the outside side
connector chain on all four tires.

MAKE sure that the cross chain connectors ends to not rub against the tire tread rubber, They have to
be facing outside.

I have a couple of neighbors who tried it. Their biggest issue is low ground clearance. Slip off the roadway a little and they get stuck on the belly pan with four wheels spinning. They didnt do well on slopes or uneven ground. Second issue was very expensive hydraulic driven snow blowers and the need for high flow hydraulics.

I have a high flow hydraulic blower on my tracked skidsteer. Works great. Best thing is no more shear pins to deal with.

SS will be much more maneuverable, probably a good choice for lot clearing. For slopes chains will be best. I dont like ladder chains because you can slide sideways with them. However diamonds will be much more likely to tear up roadways. It is a compromise. I doubt studs will be enough. Start with ladder and if they dont work then you have some options.
